Chris Pine Returning for a Star Trek Movie Trilogy?
Chris Pine is reportedly back for a lot more Star Trek.

If you’ve been longing to see Chris Pine and his irresistible baby-blues grace the big-screen again and maybe weren’t too keen on how his character was integrated into DC’s Wonder Woman: 1984 or have just been looking to get your inner Trekkie fix with hopes of seeing Chris Pine resume his role as Captain Kirk, then you just might be in luck. According to We Got This Covered, Paramount has recently been expressing renewed interest in embarking on at least one new Star Trek movie with the cast from the Kelvin timeline.
There is still cause to remain skeptical, however, over the fact that another sequel could definitively happen. The last installment from the Kelvin timeline, Star Trek Beyond, debuted back in 2016 and garnered acceptable, but less than stellar profits. Chris Pine, initially was on board to film a Star Trek 4 but has walked away from and recommitted to the project on several occasions. Although, Deadline, was confident when they reported that, “Matt Shakman has made a deal to direct the next untitled Star Trek film for Paramount and Bad Robot’s J.J. Abrams.”
Even though the project looks like it’s going to be moving forward rather quickly, with reports of it beginning production this coming spring, we still have yet to hear any official statement from Chris Pine or any other cast members from the previous trilogy as to whether or not they are definitely going to be resuming their roles. It is also unclear as to exactly where in the Kelvin timeline this movie will take place.
What is interesting, however, is that the script is allegedly going to be written by a duo of female writers, Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet. According to the publication, Comic Years, this is a significant milestone for the franchise because it would mark the first time for the series to have a script written exclusively by females. So even if fans don’t get to see Chis Pine command the USS Enterprise again, it’s great to know that the franchise, as a whole, is making progressive and inclusive strides.
While nothing is officially set in stone about the plot or even the cast, Paramount is attuned to the success of spin-off shows like Star Trek Discovery and Picard, proof that Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk isn’t the only character capable of capturing the interest of new viewers. That doesn’t mean, however, that we should rule Chris Pine out of the next film. Chris Pine is slated to star in a live-action Dungeon and Dragons movie, but reports have surfaced that the project has been delayed. This could leave the actor with enough availability to commit to another Star Trek movie.
Overall, whether fans get to see Chris Pine in another Star Trek film or not. The film looks to be in solid hands. J.J. Abrams is a sci-fi savant who’s seen success dating all the way back to the cult-hit spy-fi Alias and Shakman has definitely proven his level of capability after the acclaim that he received for his work on WandaVision. It will surely be interesting to see what this collaboration will produce.
