A Major HBO Show Has Shut Down Production After A Confirmed Infection

Last year began with shuttered productions across the globe as the coronavirus pandemic had the world under its thumb. Even though we are slowly edging towards a post-pandemic time period with countless films and series starting filming, now and then, a production is forced to shut down due to an unexpected COVID-19 positive case. And joining the list of productions that have been paused recently is HBO’s Westworld Season 4 whose shooting is soon going to briefly come to a standstill with a member of its production team testing positive.
As reported by Deadline, HBO has taken the decision to pause the ongoing production of the popular dystopian science fiction series, Westworld, after a positive covid test was recorded amongst its production crew. This was part of its constant testing protocols. The Wrap has reported that the production of Season 4 in the United Kingdom will continue this week but will be shut down for two days in the coming week.
As the number of coronavirus cases across the world continues to surge, many productions have come to a halt. The HBO series Westworld joins the recently paused production of American Horror Story Season 10, the second season of Bridgerton, and Netflix’s film adaptation of the Matilda. The production of the tenth season of American Horror Story has already been delayed once in 2020 due to the pandemic. It remains to be seen whether AHS Season 10 will manage to stick to its current premiere date of August 25, 2021. As for Westworld, HBO has no premiere date for Season 4 though it’s been officially announced.
Unfortunately, Westworld isn’t the only HBO series that will be suffering delays due to the pandemic. Deadline had recently reported that the Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon, which began production in April 2021, halted its filming for a brief period after a production member was found to be Covid positive. While the fate of other spinoff series remains in limbo, House of Dragon is the only Game of Thrones prequel which begun production. It will hopefully debut on HBO in 2022 as scheduled despite the delays.
The House of the Dragon on HBO will tell the story of Daenerys Targaryen’s ancestors, is co-created by George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal. Condal, along with Miguel Sapochnik, is also the showrunner of the series. On the other hand, Westworld is created and executive produced by Jonathan Noland and Lisa Ray. Denise Thé, J.J. Abrams, Athena Wickham, Richard J. Lewis, and Ben Stephenson are also on board as executive producers while Kilter Films, Bad Robot Productions, and Warner Bros Television are producers of the series.
The fourth season of the HBO series will see the return of Evan Rachel Wood as Dolores Abernathy, Jeffrey Wright as Bernard Lowe, Thandie Newton as Maeve Millay, Aaron Paul as Caleb Nichols, Jimmi Simpson as William, Katja Herbers as Emily Grace, Ed Harris as the Man in Black, Tessa Thompson as Charlotte Hale, Luke Hemsworth as Ashley Stubbs, Simon Quarterman as Lee Sizemore, Rodrigo Santoro as Hector Escaton, while Aurora Perrineau has joined in an undisclosed role.
