Playing a superhero in the movies takes more than just mad acting skills – it requires some serious strength too. So it makes perfect sense for Brie Larson to be getting into fighting shape with a series of grueling new workouts. As she prepares to smite bad guys as the iconic Captain Marvel, the actress has been sharing some of her intense workout routines on social media.
In what appears to be her garage, wearing a matching crop top and leggings, Brie Larson can be seen tackling a weight-based workout with her trainer. In the clip posted to Instagram, the actress lifts one end of a barbell that’s holding three 45-pound Sorinex weighted plates.
She lifts the end of the barbell to waist height, then squats slowly while bringing it back down to the floor, and repeats the motion. “No toes were hurt in the making,” she captioned the mini video. And if that wasn’t enough, Brie Larson did this completely barefoot except for the splash of red nail polish on her toenails.
The video proves that it takes a lot of hard work to portray a Human–Kree hybrid on screen. From boxing sessions to weight training to rock climbing, Brie Larson’s insane workout routine is credited to her physical trainer Jason Walsh.
Walsh is the founder of Rise Nation and the go-to fitness expert for Hollywood’s biggest stars when they need to effectively and safely transform themselves into their most physically challenging roles. He helped Brie Larson prepare for her first outing as Captain Marvel. The trainer has worked with Emma Stone, John Krasinski, Matt Damon, Amy Adams, Alison Brie, and Bradley Cooper.
While weight-based workouts are essential for Brie Larson to take on physically demanding roles, she says that stretching is a huge part of her exercise routine too. In a YouTube video, the Marvel star says stretching is great for mornings, before workouts, as you’re winding down your day, or for people who spend a lot of time at a desk all day. “It’s good to incorporate a couple of stretches and be kind to yourself,” she explains.
Brie Larson made her Marvel Cinematic debut as Captain Marvel in 2019. Set in the 1990s, the story followed Carol Danvers as she turned into one of the galaxy’s mightiest heroes after the Earth is caught in the center of an intergalactic conflict between two alien worlds. A follow-up was announced shortly after its release.
The Marvels will serve as the sequel to the highly successful Captain Marvel movie. It will also be a continuation of the upcoming Disney+ series Ms. Marvel. Directed by Nia DaCosta from a screenplay by Megan McDonnell, the movie will star Brie Larson as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, and Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel. However, the exact plot details are currently unknown.
The Marvels is scheduled to be released on November 11, 2022, as part of Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
