Britney Spears Just Won A Major Court Battle
Finally, Britney Spears has seen a big win in her court battles against her father.

Things have heated up for Britney Spears’ conservatorship case. Finally, the star got something done in her favor.
Three weeks ago, she came out about the abuse she was dealing with and wanted it to end. Now things will start moving in that direction after her latest testimony. Set at Stanley Mosk Courthouse, which was crowded with fans of the singer holding signs and wearing merchandise to express their support, L.A. County Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny ruled that Britney Spears could hire her own lawyer, something she was previously not allowed to do. She will be hiring Mathew Rosengart of Greenberg Traurig to assist her in ending the conservatorship. During this process, Rosengart introduced his team, which consisted of include Eric Rowen, Scott Bertzyk, and Lisa McCurdy.
The lawyer argued his side for Britney Spears to have her own representation due to her previous testimony. With the other hearing, he pointed that she proved she could make such decisions. The judge approved his appointment, thus removing the court-appointed attorneys Samuel D. Ingham III and co-counsel from Loeb & Loeb.
Before speaking, she asked the judge to clear the courtroom. She will need to deliver specifics about what she may say in her testimony before that can happen. In the phone call to deliver her statement, Britney Spears expressed how she feels about this ongoing battle to have her father, James Spears, charged with conservatorship abuse.
Ingham, the original court-appointed attorney, was getting texts from Britney Spears as she did not have her new lawyer’s number. She wanted to speak, and she further urged that she wants to press charges against her father and that an investigation should begin to look into his treatment of her. Rosengart, the new attorney, then said they would be “filing as quickly as possible” to remove her father.
Vivian Thoreen, Britney Spears’ father’s lawyer, argued against these decisions to charge her client. She said that there was “no basis” to remove James Spears’ position. She continued that the allegations of his poor treatment of her “could not be further from the truth.”
Thoreen said that Britney Spears’ claims were not entirely true and that she might be misunderstanding what freedoms she has. While her father has power over her social life and her IUD, the lawyer argues that the singer can make these decisions independently.
It has been an uphill battle for Britney Spears. While she got this victory, she has had plenty of losses. Two weeks ago, Judge Penny denied removing parts of her conservatorship, keeping certain restrictions on her life.
A follow-up hearing was scheduled for September 29. It will address the rest of the agenda that was on the docket of this latest proceeding. Some of those will consist of whether or not an investigation should begin regarding the claims that Britney Spears made on June 23, if her permanent conservator will be Montgomery, and security measures and costs for anyone attached to the conservatorship as death threats continue to persist.
Between hearings, Britney Spears has been trying to keep things in her public life a bit brighter than her private life. Posting vacations and inspirational messages for her fans that have shown a less dramatic side outside of battling her conservatorship.
