Night Court Star Has Passed Away
One of the beloved stars of Night Court has died.

Charlie Robinson, a veteran actor, best known for playing Mac the court clerk in the 1980s and ‘90s sitcom Night Court, died on Sunday, July 11th, at 75. One of Hollywood’s best died in Lost Angeles at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center of cardiac arrest.
The career that spanned over 50 years came to a halt along with Night Court star Charlie Robinson’s heart – he died of cardiac arrest with multisystem organ failures due to septic shock and metastatic adenocarcinoma, as reported by Variety. For those less versed in medical terminology, Charlie Robinson dies of heart attack and cancer, both conditions which were not publically known or disclosed. However, the circumstances of his death were disclosed to various outlets by his representative Lisa DiSante.
Robinson’s 50-year-long career was fruitful, to say the least, since he’s credited with over 125 appearances in various media, including titles like Secret Santa, The River, Even Money, and a 2002’s drama film Miss Lettie and Me. His TV series appearances include Home Improvement, Mom, Heart of Dixie, NCIS, The Guestbook, and his two most notable appearances as Mac Robinson in Night Court and Newdell in 1983’s comedy television show Buffalo Bill.
Night Court star’s talent wasn’t limited to big and small screens only – Robinson was an accomplished theater actor, having starred in Fences, The Whipping Man, and James Tyler’s most recent play, Some Old Black Man. And still, his talent didn’t end there. Robinson started his career in the entertainment business in the ’60s as a singer and a stage actor, where he performed in various groups like Archie Bell and the Drells and Southern Clouds of Joy. Then, in the late ‘60s, he enrolled in Chris Wilson’s acting school, Studio 7, in Houston, where he was born and raised.
Robertson garnered many accolades for his theatrical performances, including the Image Theatre Award, FRED Award, and Best Actor Ovation Award. The latter was for his portrayal of Troy in Fences; a lead role played by Denzel Washington in the 2016 film. In addition, he’s a two-time winner of the Camie Award for his appearance in 2002’s Miss Lettie and Me and 2003’s Secret Santa, which also starred Mary Tyler Moore and Burt Reynolds. Though he recently starred opposing The Wire star Wendell Pierce in Some Old Black Man, which was a massive success, Charlie Robertson will remain best-known for his portrayal of Mac from Night Court.
Pierce, who also starred in one of Netflix’s most-watched movies, was one of Charlie’s many colleagues who paid tribute to the star of the Night Court, stating that the two created a lifetime of friendship after spending 27 days in quarantine together while creating Some Old Black Man. Robinson’s Night Court co-star, John Larroquette, also paid tribute to the actor in a tweet on Monday, expressing his deepest condolences to Charlie’s loved ones.
