Today was WitcherCon, a day set to celebrate all things Witcher-related. At the end of the stream, Henry Cavill introduced fans to a new trailer for Season 2 of The Witcher, the Netflix adaptation based on popular fantasy games and novels.
Before this latest The Witcher trailer the only look at the second season of the Henry Cavill series was a 10-second clip. With a proper trailer, we get to see Geralt and Freya Allan’s Ciri as they make their way to Kaer Morhen. It highlights where the story will head, places we will see, and characters we will either meet for the first time or rejoin from the previous season. There was plenty of tension in the trailer, but it lacked monsters this time. That being said, if you know anything about the books, games, or the show, there will be plenty. The first season of The Witcher might have been a little confusing with the timelines, but it was still a massive hit with the Netflix audience. The second season will be more linear with its structure. From what we know, we will see Cavill’s Geralt train Allan’s Ciri. Meanwhile, Anya Chalotra’s Yennefer is having to deal with some ominous trouble.
As a big gamer and fantasy fan, playing Geralt of Rivia in the Netflix series is a dream role for Henry Cavill. He was a long-time fan as he played through the games that were developed by CD Projekt Red adapted from the novels by Andrzej Sapkowski. The actor worked hard to get the right contacts to be the leading man with silver hair and a silver sword as he slays monsters.
The Netflix adaptation focuses more on the books, which are popular in Europe, but not world-renowned like the trilogy of games that have been hailed as some of the greatest RPGs ever made. The latest installment would go on to win so many Game of the Year Awards; it would have the most accolades from the category until this year when Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part 2 beat its record.
The Witcher series starring Henry Cavill is run and co-written by Lauren Schmidt (Daredevil). The writing staff includes Declan De Barra (Iron Fist), Beau DeMayo (The Originals), Jenny Klein (Supernatural), Sneha Koorse (Daredevil), Mike Ostrowski (CSI: Miami), Clare Higgins (The Umbrella Academy), and making her writing debut is Haily Hall.
While the showrunner is busy, a slew of directors come in to direct Henry Cavill and his co-stars. The Witcher is directed by Alik Sakharov (Ozark), Charlotte Brandstrom (The Outsider), Alex Garcia Lopez (Daredevil), Marc Jobst (Daredevil), Ed Bazalgette (Doctor Who), Louise Hooper (Flesh and Blood), Sarah O’Gorman (The Last Kingdom), and Stephen Surjik (The Punisher).
The Witcher season 2 will hit Netflix on December 17 with Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra (Sherwood), Anna Shaffer (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince), Adjoa Andoh (Doctor Who), and Freya Allan (The Third Day).
