Sonic Colors Ultimate Trailer Shows Off A Beautiful Upgrade
Sonic Colors Ultimate looks like an incredible upgrade.
2010’s Sonic Colors stands out as one of the better Sonic the Hedgehog games released over the past 30 years. The new remaster, Sonic Colors: Ultimate, is SEGA’s showcase release for its mascot’s 3’th anniversary, bringing a plethora of visual and feature updates to the iconic video game. You can see these beautiful upgrades in the new Sonic Colors: Ultimate trailer below.
The Sonic Colors: Ulitmate allows players to rediscover the thrills of Dr. Eggman’s Incredible Interstellar Amusement Park, showcasing all of its improvements in the newly released trailer. The two-minute-long trailer for SEGA shows precisely what the fandom can expect in terms of new visuals, quality of life improvements, and brand-new features coming in the Ultimate version of the game. Of course, this includes the new 4K resolution running at 60 frames per second, with re-vamped lightning and overall improvements in texture quality. This one is particularly interesting to see in a side-by-by side comparison.
There’s also a new Rival Rush mode, which allows players to race throughout the levels against Metal Sonic, an evil ultra-high performance robot version of Sonic, for unlockable rewards. Beyond that, the Sonic Colors: Ultimate introduces Park Tokens, in-game currency players earn throughout the game, which could be spent for customizable boots and gloves, finally fulfilling the fandom’s dreams of Sonic the Hedgehog racing in yellow shoes. Park Tokens also unlock unique boosts throughout the game, alongside different player auras.
The original 2010 Sonic Colors introduced the Wisp power-ups players can use to increase attack power and reach new areas. Thanks to the original game, Wisps became the staple of the Sonic franchise, appearing in future releases, including the 2011’s Sonic Generations, 2013’s Sonic Lost World, and 2017’s Sonic Forces. Well, Sonic Colors: Ultimate introduces a new Wisp power, Jade Ghost, that allows Sonic to fly around levels and pass through solid objects to access otherwise hidden areas. Something like a no-clip god-mode cheat without it actually being a cheat.
The quality-of-life improvements include the customizable controls layouts, which were absent from the original game, the new Tails save spots, which takes you back to safety if needs be, and the good-old “100 count ring invincibility”. Don’t forget the all-new fully-remixed soundtrack that sets the pace while players put an end to Dr. Eggman’s evil plan and save all the Wisps.
Sonic the Hedgehog is one of the world’s best-known video game characters, gaming icon, and SEGA’s mascot character, whose blue pigmentation matches SEGA’s cobalt blue logo. Besides being the titular hero of the same-name franchise and the upcoming Sonic Colors: Ultimate video game, Sonic appeared in a series of spin-off media. This includes the mega-hit Sonic the Hedgehog feature film from 2020, which is getting a sequel, and Netflix’s Sonic Prime animated series, which is centered around the adventures of everyone’s favorite blue Hedgehog.
As for the upcoming game, Sonic Colors: Ultimate is set to release on September 7 this year on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One consoles. Our guess is that the game will be accessible on the new-gen hardware through backward compatibility, so the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S owners don’t feel left out. The PC version of the game will receive a digital-only release on the Epic Games store.
