See The New Dune Trailer With Brand New Footage
We finally have a brand new Dune trailer. See it here.
The second Dune trailer is here. Finally. It has a mix of things you saw so many months ago in the first one, with a bunch of first new looks. While it is narrated in Japanese, the trailer has a bunch of new footage to show viewers who have waited a long time to check it out on HBO Max or in theaters. It highlights previous clips we have seen along with more at the sci-fi epic.
Watch the new one-minute Dune trailer below.
The Japanese narrated Dune trailer gives less of a look at the narrative and characters but more of the spectacle of the whole experience. Ranging from a giant sandworm, the ensemble cast going on this adventure, and plenty of battle sequences in the open landscape.
Based on the 1965 novel of the same name by Herbert, the movie follows the son (played by Lady Bird‘s Timothee Chalamet) of a royal family who has been granted access to an asset that is the most important thing in the galaxy. Now he must protect it from their enemies. While we see Chalamet in the Dune trailer, we also get a wider sweeping look at the many others involved.
The film’s huge cast goes beyond the young lead who has been getting plenty of the spotlight with hits like Lady Bird and Call Me by Your Name. The Dune trailer highlights its other stars like Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), Jason Mamoa (Game of Thrones), Oscar Isaac (Star Wars), Zendaya (Spider-Man: Homecoming) and Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible – Fallout).
Between both Dune trailers, we have a good grasp on what we should expect from Denis Villeneuve’s interpretation. He has made a name for himself by doing large-scale sci-fi with plenty of weirdness. In 2016, he did Arrival with Amy Adams (American Hustle) and Jeremy Renner (Avengers). The film would get him an Oscar nomination for best director. The year after, he did a sequel to Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner with Blade Runner 2049 that had Harrison Ford (Star Wars) reprise his role with newcomers Ryan Gosling (La La Land) and Bautista.
The director was joined in the writer’s room to pen the script. Jon Spaihts has done plenty of blockbusters, especially within the realm of sci-fi, making him a good choice for the sci-fi epic promised in the Dune trailer. He touched the Alien franchise with Prometheus. Later he wrote Passengers with Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook). The two are joined by Oscar-winning writer Eric Roth, who won the award for best screenplay for Forrest Gump. He also has done other award-nominated films like Mank, and 2018’s A Star Is Born.
Back in 1984, there was already a Dune movie. David Lynch (The Elephant Man) wrote and directed his adaption of the classic novel. With the Dune trailer, Villeneuve is setting himself and his stars apart in this upcoming film.
The first Dune trailer came out on September 9th last year. While the latest one is more of a teaser, it could get quite close to that number. With the film releasing in three months, that number could even rival that 34 million.
The characters seem to have their own troubles with their battles going on, as seen in the Dune trailer, but that is not the only issue circling the film. COVID-19 has thrown the film industry into disarray. While it is getting back on its feet, the sci-fi epic found plenty of its own issues with numerous delays. Originally set for last year, the film was moved to a October 1, 2021 release. Then, it got pushed again recently to October 22, 2021. It also was meant for theaters, and now it will be out in theaters and HBO Max as Warner Bros. shifted its entire 2021 slate to the streaming service, with some getting a duel release in theaters.
