Dwayne Johnson Appearance In Another DC Movie Just Got Teased
Dwayne Johnson might not only be in Black Adam.

Shazam: Fury of the Gods, the sequel to the 2019 film, is rolling along as it has been shooting for 27 days. The director of the previous entry and its follow-up, David F. Sandberg, posted a tease on his Instagram that has caught fans’ attention. The image shows off a yellow lightning bolt on a rock, with a pattern reminiscent of Black Adam’s signature costume. With that, speculation has kicked up that Dwayne Johnson, who will play Shazam’s nemesis in his own standalone movie, will appear in the upcoming superhero flick.
The calculation in the marketing for DC, and even Marvel, movies is extensive. Posting an image that could stir up fans wanting to see Dwayne Johnson meet Zachary Levi’s hero to establish an early connection could mean something. Or it could not as excitement builds rapidly, and can lead to nothing.
DC has multiple universes going from the Arrowverse, the DC Extended Universe, and wherever we end up seeing Robert Pattinson’s The Batman, who is reportedly on Earth-Two. Dwayne Johnson could be on the Extended Universe side of things as Shazam! was established a few years ago. The actor told Variety three years ago that DC was figuring out where he would be placed within these universes. Since then we have not had confirmation if the company figured it out yet.
Black Adam is currently on the final stretch of filming. If Dwayne Johnson appears in Shazam: Fury of the Gods, then it could be possible for him to squeeze himself into shooting a quick scene after production wraps on his standalone DC blockbuster.
Behind the camera for the Dwayne Johnson film will be director Jaume Collet-Serra (Orphan) with writers Adam Sztykiel (Rampage), Sohrab Noshirvani (Informer), and Rory Haines (Informer).
The cast is as large as Dwayne Johnson’s muscles. His co-stars consist of Sarah Shahi (The Rookie), Pierce Brosnan (Tomorrow Never Dies), and Aldis Hodge (One Night in Miami).
Dwayne Johnson is not alone in starring in a DC superhero flick with a horror-centered director. Aquaman was helmed by James Wan, the creator of two megahit franchises in the genre with Saw and The Conjuring. The director of both Shazam movies has made his career off of scaring audiences. He made a splash with Lights Out in 2016 and then got to touch the Conjuring universe with 2017’s Annabelle: Creation, the second film in the trilogy about the creepy doll.
In the Instagram post regarding Fury of the Gods, Sandberg did give some trivia comparing his breakout film Lights Out to the superhero sequel. On day 27 of filming, he would have wrapped the horror film. The shooting will end up being longer than that and Annabelle combined.
While we don’t know when the Dwayne Johnson and Zachary Levi will go head-to-head, we do have expected times when to see their next standalone adventures, if all goes right during production as nothing is certain with COVID-19. Black Adam will hit theaters on July 29, 2022. It is not an April Fool’s joke, Shazam 2 will release on April 1, 2022.
