Liev Schreiber Shows First Look At Ray Donovan Finale Movie
Liev Schreiber is giving us a first update on the Ray Donovan finale.

Fans of Liev Schreiber’s Ray Donovan can breathe a heavy sigh of relief. The actor has just posted a picture to his Instagram showing him reuniting with four of his long-time castmates, telling all that the Ray Donovan movie finale is underway.

The image includes Kerris Dorsey, who plays Ray’s daughter Bridget, Dash Mihok, who plays Bunchy, Ray’s younger brother, Pooch Hall, who portrays Ray’s younger half-brother Daryll, and Eddie Marsan, who plays Ray’s older brother Terry.
For seven seasons, Liev Schreiber has portrayed the professional fixer on the Showtime Network and the cast and crew were looking forward to filming their eighth and final season.
Schreiber’s Ray Donovan has no boundaries. The series revolves around Donovan and his ability to do whatever it takes to help his high-profile clients get out of jams that include arranging bribes, crime-scene clean-up, threats, payoffs, or anything else that falls under the category of illegal. To make matters worse, his father, played by Jon Voight, is unexpectedly released from prison, causing a lot of turmoil for Ray, his family, and friends. Then, without warning, the series was cancelled.
“After seven incredible seasons, Ray Donovan has concluded its run on Showtime,” the premium cable network said in a statement obtained via The Hollywood Reporter. “We are proud that the series ended amid such strong viewership and on such a powerful note. Our deepest thanks go to Liev Schreiber, Jon Voight, showrunner David Hollander and the entire cast and crew, past and present, for their dedicated work.”
It is said the cancellation was politically motivated. Hollander expressed that he and his staff were blindsided by Showtime’s decision, which came after the merger between CBS, who owns Showtime, and Viacom. “Whatever new environment grew from the merger clearly had some impact on their choice,” Hollander said via Page Six.
The news of the cancellation hit the cast, especially Liev Schreiber, very hard. A source from the show said, also via Page Six, “Liev took the news very hard, he is a serious actor and takes this role seriously, not to be able to finish this character was hurting him, it was torturing him. He had committed his life to the show for the past seven years.”
But the powers that be, the fans, were not having any of it. They flooded Showtime, demanding a proper ending to the season 7 cliffhanger that saw Ray’s father Mickey in the wind, and Ray determined to finally stop him from causing any more damage.
Liev Schreiber was the first to hint at a possible continuation when he said via his Instagram that, “It seems like your voices have been heard. Too soon to say how or when, but with a little luck and your ongoing support, there will be more ‘Ray Donovan.’”
The film, scheduled to come to Showtime in 2022, will pick up right where season seven left off. It also looks to delve into the Donovan/Sullivan feud by exploring the origin story between Ray and his father Mickey from 30-years ago.
Liev Schreiber is co-writing the script alongside Hollander, who will also be tackling the directing duties. Schreiber and Hollander will also pick up executive producer credits for the film that will also see David Patrick Kelly, AJ Michalka, and Chris Petrovski added to the cast.
This is not the first time the power of the people has helped bring back shows from the dead for one-offs that wrap up hastily canceled shows. Firefly had Serenity and Breaking Bad had El Camino, as two prime examples of the passion fans have for their shows. Thankfully, Ray Donovan had the same following and will now be able to wrap up their series the way it was meant to be.
