Exclusive: The Joker Is In Robert Pattinson’s Batman
We've exclusively learned more details for Robert Pattinson's Batman. Joker will be making an appearance.
Update: This Giant Freakin Robot exclusive was confirmed, and Barry Keoghan appeared as The Joker in The Batman deleted scene.
The Batman is coming. Every few weeks, a new detail is released that gives us a better picture of what to expect. The trailer was packed full of them, showing off Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman and Paul Dano as Riddler. We know that we’ll be seeing The Penguin. And a few weeks ago, Giant Freakin Robot exclusively learned The Batman’s plans for Mr. Freeze, setting up events for future movies starring Robert Pattinson’s Batman. Now, we have another peek behind the current. Thanks to one of our trusted and proven sources, we’ve learned that Joker will appear near the end of The Batman, setting up his future for sequels. The Batman is going to be packed full of Gotham’s villains.
Joker won’t be appearing until near the end of the Robert Pattinson movie, and then only briefly in a cameo. The Batman will be focused on Riddler, Catwoman, and Penguin. The appearances from Mr. Freeze and Joker will be teases to get us excited for sequels. Our source wasn’t able to share who may be playing Joker in the cameo. It would seem to be out of the question that Jared Leto would be doing it since The Batman and Justice League take place in two different cinematic universes. Robert Pattinson’s Batman lives on Earth-Two. This should also mean that Joaquin Phoenix, from Joker, is unlikely. It seems fair to guess that we’re getting a new actor as Joker for Earth-Two.
For some fans, having three Jokers still currently considered active in DC Films may seem like too much, but for others, it’s just always a good time seeing someone else try to play such a unique role. While all Batman villains are important in their own way, especially to fans of the comics and other iterations that know some of the lesser-known ones better, we’ve seen Joker on screen so many times in so many different fashions that it’s difficult to not get excited about the possibility. Cesar Romero, Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger, Jared Leto, and Joaquin Phoenix have all had wildly different interpretations of Joker in live-action Batman movies. Who will play Robert Pattinson’s Joker? And how will he be this time around?
It’s likely we’ll be seeing a particularly dark take on Joker, based on what we know of The Batman so far. Andy Serkis, who is playing Alfred in the film, has said that he feels the movie is darker than most Batman movies. This is a sentiment others have shared. It makes sense from what we’ve seen in the trailer, and from how many villains they’re throwing into Robert Pattinson’s world. However, it’s hard not to raise your eyebrow at anyone saying The Batman will be so dark after seeing Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight, right? How is anyone supposed to play Joker in a particularly dark fashion when Heath Ledger’s iconic take on the character is where the bar has been set?
As for what we’ll see in The Batman, Joker is only going to be briefly in the end, setting up the future and giving us a peek at who will be playing the character and a feel for how. This means it’s unlikely we’ll get a look at him until the actual movie releases. They’ll be teasing multiple villains in The Batman, not just Mr. Freeze and Joker.
It’ll be interesting to see how big of a role they choose to give Joker in The Batman 2. With so many villains in Robert Pattinson’s DC films, will they decide to lean toward villains we’ve seen more of recently, like Joker, or will they give more screen time to villains that haven’t been as well represented in Batman films so far? Give the audience more familiarity or something new? It would be so interesting to know if writer and director Matt Reeves has already made this decision, or if they’re putting so many of the villains in The Batman to test them with audiences, see which prove to resonate better, and then plan to go from there.
With the world changing so drastically at the end of Robert Pattinson’s The Batman, and so many classic villains from the comics being set up, here’s hoping that they have the next script ready to go. After the delays caused to films in 2020, it would be refreshing to see quicker releases coming from DC, packed full of villains and ready to surprise us.
