Steve Martin Is Back With A Brand New Series, See The Trailer

There are true crime fanatics all over the place; just look at how many TV shows, movies, and podcasts are out there. What if those who are intrigued by true crime were caught up in one? That is the premise of the new Hulu series Only Murders in the Building starring Steve Martin, Selena Gomez, and Martin Short, which just released a brand new trailer.
The comedy will follow three neighbors – Steve Martin, Selena Gomez, and Martin Short – in a nice apartment building on the Upper West Side who hear the news that a neighbor had died. The police are investigating it as a homicide, which gets the three strangers intrigued enough to look into it themselves. Turns out, all three are big fans of true crime. With their involvement in the investigation, comedy and drama ensue as the audience will follow the three amateur investigators who team up to try to find the killer. The trailer consistently poses the question, “How well do you know your neighbors?” That hints at what we can expect when uncovering this mystery. Someone living in their building has a darker side to them.
Steve Martin is co-creating the show with John Hoffman (Looking) and they will also lead the writing team. The other two lead actors will act as producers with the creators along with Jane Raab (Sex and the City), Jamie Babbit (Silicon Valley), Dan Fogelman (This Is Us), Jess Rosenthal (This Is Us), Thembi Banks (Home Before Dark), Kirker Butler (Family Guy), and Kristin Newman (Chuck). Babbit will direct with Cherien Dabis (Ozark), Gillian Robespierre (Obvious Child), and Don Scardino (30 Rock).
Others who will show up in the story along with Steve Martin include Aaron Dominguez (Shaft), with this being his first major TV role, Amy Ryan (The Office), Vanessa Aspillaga (Hustlers), Nathan Lane (Modern Family), and Michael Cyril Creighton (Spotlight). IMDB lists the supporting cast to pop up in a variety of episodes, from Dominguez being in nine out of the ten episodes, while Lane and Ryan will show up for one.
The murder mystery comedy will be a different direction for the leading cast members. The Hulu series marks Selena Gomez‘s first TV appearance since the Disney series Wizards of Waverly Place, which ran from 2007 to 2012. Since she has starred in the 2012 animated movie Hotel Transylvania and the raunchy comedy Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising. She also acts as a producer for Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why. Martin Short has been busy with Saturday Night Live appearances, character work in shows like The Simpsons and Modern Family. He also wrote and starred in the 2016 show Maya and Marty. Steve Martin has done plenty of work on Saturday Night Live while also collaborating on Netflix with Short called Steve Martin and Martin Short: An Evening You Will Forget for the Rest of Your Life.
Only Murders in the Building will hit Hulu on August 31 for a 10 episode season. No word was given on if it will continue afterward or if it is a one-off show.
