Henry Cavill Being Erased As Superman In The Flash By Supergirl?
Could we be seeing the end of Henry Cavill in the DC Extended Universe?

Many of DC’s plans seem to be up in the air, especially how it will cast a new Superman with a Black actor to replace Henry Cavill. Now, We Got This Covered picked up a rumor that a now-deleted Reddit user posted that Supergirl might be the gateway to get a new Man of Steel in The Flash feature film coming out next year. The rumor does not have more to offer than that, so take this one with a heaping helping of salt.
Since The Flash is currently in production, a lot of theories are flying around about what kind of effect it will have on various parts of the DC film universe. We know that Michael Keaton is coming back as his version of Batman, and that has led to plenty of worthwhile speculation about the Multiverse and how it will inform the future of all DC movies and television shows. There is a lot of scuttlebutt that the movie is being used as something of a reset button for whatever grander plans WarnerMedia has with the DC characters. This could very well include a way to change or remove Henry Cavill as the main version of Superman.
Three weeks ago, we reported that Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman would either be replaced in The Flash or we would be seeing another Multiverse version of the superhero. This would line up with other potential replacements that are being discussed. It does not prove the news about Henry Cavill, but it is something to keep in mind regarding his future in DC.
The confusion becomes greater for DC fans as ideas and plans are scattered across all these multiple universes. Even one universe may have multiple variations of the same character, like Henry Cavill as Superman. In the upcoming The Suicide Squad movie directed by James Gunn, it was revealed that Idris Elba’s Bloodsport put the hero in the ICU with a Kryptonite bullet. The issue is that he doesn’t know which Superman got put out of commission, all he knows is that it is canon in the film’s universe.
Speculation is going wild on who will replace Henry Cavill. Other media outlets have put out ideas on who would don the red S on their chest in the new J.J. Abrams=produced film. Collider, for one, made a list of 11 actors who could play the iconic character like Michael B. Jordan (Black Panther), John David Washington (Tenet), and Jonathan Majors (Lovecraft Country).
This new approach where a Black actor will be cast as the flying hero will be produced by J.J. Abrams’ company Bad Robot and will not involve Henry Cavill in any capacity. Journalist and author Ta-Nehisi Coates will pen the script. He has written a range of different styles, from a memoir in 2008 called The Beautiful Struggle to the writer diving into the fantastical world of Marvel superheroes with a run of issues in Black Panther. The untitled film that the two are working on is in early development and is a part of the long line of untitled projects that the producer is attached to.
Regardless of exiting DC, Henry Cavill has plenty to work on. August 17 will be the second season of The Witcher on Netflix, a series based on books by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski and eventually adapted into video games by CD Projekt Red. He will also star in the single-player campaign for the PC game Star Citizen, which is titled Squadron 42. The game will also feature big names like Mark Hamill and Gary Oldman.
