Why is it that the size of Salma Hayek’s boobs keeps changing? Because that’s life. We’ve watched the actress on screen for decades now, and her biggest fans have observed a noticeable shift in the size of her chest. Despite the fact that it didn’t happen all at once, but slowly over the years, it left many demanding answers and accusing her of plastic surgery. This is surprising, since changes in breast size throughout the course of life are actually quite normal, expected, and even healthy. However, it’s not something that gets talked about a lot. And so, Salma Hayek has decided to change that in a big way, talking about her breasts on Red Table Talk recently, and soon, starring in an HBO Max series where her breasts will talk to her.
Salma Hayek had a lot to say during her time on Red Table Talk, the online show with Jada Pinkett-Smith and her family. They do interviews where they talk about a variety of difficult and unconventional subjects. During her interview, Hayek talked about how breast size can often change when people gain weight, during pregnancy, and during menopause. “A lot of people said that I had breast augmentation,” said Hayek. “I don’t blame them! My boobs were smaller! So was the rest of my body.”
Salma Hayek went on to say that this isn’t talked about a lot. Sometimes, after pregnancy, breast size doesn’t go back down. For about one in five people, breasts get larger during menopause. While we often discuss having hot flashes or mood swings associated with menopause, there are many more possible symptoms. For some, their breasts actually get smaller, or change shape.
As for how her larger breasts have changed her life, Salma Hayek said it’s been a pain. The larger breasts have given her a lot of back pain. They’ve also caused a lot of people to accuse her of breast augmentation, which she says she doesn’t blame them for. She considers it a misunderstanding due to not being aware of how breasts can change through life changes, and also, they’ve just changed a lot.
Women and their experiences with their breasts and with life changes and aging is something that Salma Hayek is ready to talk about.
“There’s no expiration dates for women. That has to go. Because you can kick ass at any age. You can hold your own at any age, you can dream at any age, you can be romantic at any age,” Salma Hayek shared on Red Table Talk. “We have the right to be loved for who we are at the place that we are. We’re not just here to make babies, we’re not just here to baby the men. We’re not just here to service everything and everyone around us.”
At 54 years old, Salma Hayek is about to star in Eternals for Marvel where she’ll be joining a diverse cast. She has praised the director Chloé Zhao for recognizing that diversity is a larger issue that should also include ageism. The director told Variety, “Ageism in Hollywood is a very concerning issue that we must stand against as artists.” For Hayek, this was a large part of why she took on the role of Ajak.
For HBO Max, Salma Hayek has signed on to star in and produce A Boob’s Life. Based on the book by Leslie’s Lehr, the show is going to explore a 40 year old woman’s life, her experience with her breasts, and how that changes how she interacts with the world, all through the lens of a comedy where her boobs start talking to her. About the project, Hayek told Deadline, “In A Boob’s Life, we use breasts as a metaphor for the constant judgment women are submitted to, creating a collective sensation that no matter what we do we are never enough. In this show, we give the breast a voice that takes us through the life of a woman from a unique perspective that often we don’t dare to see.”
Elsewhere in Salma Hayek’s career, she just saw the release of The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard top the box office. She starred in the sequel with actors Sam Jackson and Ryan Reynolds. She also just learned that she will soon have her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It seems that Hayek is right. Being in her fifties definitely hasn’t been an expiration date for the star. It seems to be a high point.
