Tom Hiddleston’s Loki Confirmed As Bisexual

Marvel Studios doesn’t exactly have a shiny resume when it comes to being gender-inclusive. It has often been criticized for adapting characters without including their sexual identity explicitly stated in the Marvel comics. For the longest time, Marvel has been called out by many for not featuring Loki (played by Tom Hiddleston) as gender-fluid, even though his sexual identity has been a part of comic book lore as well as in Norse mythology. Well, Marvel has finally catered to the wishes of its fans as the latest episode of Disney+’s Loki has explicitly established that the God of Mischief is indeed bisexual.
Right before Loki debuted on Disney+, a promotional video on Twitter provided a quick glimpse of a Time Variance Authority file on the trickster god and eagle-eyed fans were quick to zero in on the fact that it said that Loki is gender-fluid. But fans had been burned by Marvel in the past when Valkyrie was supposed to be openly bisexual in Thor: Ragnarok but the fact and the scene confirming it never made it to the theatrical cut, so understandably they were a little wary. But then came Loki’s third episode where Tom Hiddleston’s Loki confirmed that he is indeed bisexual.
After the events of Episode 2, Loki (Tom Hiddleston) followed Lady Loki a.k.a. Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) to the TVA headquarters. Judge Renslayer and her guards would have killed them both if Loki hadn’t opened a time portal to 2077 on the purple-hued moon, Lamentis-I which is mere hours away from being destroyed after a planet slowly inches closer to crashing into it. The prospect of death brings the two variants together and as they plot ways to escape, they start conversing with each other about their childhoods before landing on the topic of lovers. Lady Loki makes it clear that as she has been on the run since she was born and has been jumping from one apocalypse to another to evade the TVA, she never had time for relationships. But Loki did and when she questions if he ever was in a relationship with a princess or perhaps a prince, he casually answers that he has been romantically involved with both men and women!
While their journey in the episode ended on a catastrophic note, Marvel fans have been busy celebrating as the revelation by Tom Hiddleston’s Loki makes him the first major Marvel character to be openly bisexual. Of course, soon after the episode aired, overjoyed fans took to Twitter to rejoice at the fact that Loki is now canonically bisexual in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well.
Many fans who had been shipping Loki and Owen Wilson’s Mobius are also hoping to now see the two ride off into the sunset on a jet ski as it has finally been established that the Asgardian prince is bisexual. While they would, undoubtedly, make one amazing couple, the bigger question is whether this revelation was a one-time tease or if Tom Hiddleston will get to play more such scenes as Loki in future episodes of the Disney+ series.
