Captain America 4 Won’t Be A Superhero Movie?
It looks like Captain America 4 is shaping up to be a very different kind of Marvel film, focusing on campy fun rather than a superhero story

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is growing so big that at this point they no longer need to tell the same conventional superhero stories we saw at the beginning. They are now afforded the opportunity to really expand the types of offerings in their franchise and give viewers a variety of different films. And that looks like it will be the case when we finally get Captain America 4. Insider Daniel Richtman has it that this next flick, a reset for the franchise will have more resemble, as he calls it, a “G.I. Joe film” than what we’ve seen from the MCU in the past.
Details are still being worked out for Captain America 4, so there’s plenty of time to really sort out which direction they are going to go with the film. But if it’s more into campy action than the much more serious tones we got from Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Civil War, it would make a lot of sense if they are going for a new style in the flick. It will be Anthony Mackie’s first run with the character and setting the movie apart from previous stories is likely one of the main directives.
And the Captain America 4 G.I. Joe feel could extend to the flick becoming more of an ensemble film than we’ve seen before, introducing a whole set of new characters in this world. There had been some rumors around how the Captain America ranks would possibly grow as well. Of course, Sam Wilson is now the official Captain America with the shield and all, but there was the chance that he’d add numbers to his group with a more diverse casting of folks around him. If the idea behind Cap is to represent the United States then it would likely include a number of different races and also draw some more definitive political lines.
There are also rumors out there that Captain America 4 could deal with nationalism again and a continued sense that this global Marvel Cinematic Universe was being divided along country lines. Some rumors have it we could see the introduction of Captain Britain as well as Russian versions of the character. Whether that would someone similar to David Harbour’s Red Guardian from Black Widow or someone else remains to be seen. Plus, we might get the return of Wyatt Russell’s John Walker/ U.S. Agent who briefly held the shield before getting just a little too murder-y along the way. Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s Val has some plans for that guy.
Captain America 4 will, for sure, be a movie that the Marvel Cinematic Universe will want to use to set the character well off from the Chris Evan/ Steve Rogers version who had been critical to the first three Marvel Phases. With The Falcon and the Winter Soldier coming as the second offering of Phase 4, it was just one of the many ways the franchise began to shift away from the legacy characters. And making the next flick a stylized but somewhat campy story would definitely serve to create a totally new feel for Captain America going forward.
