The last year or so has been almost nothing but speculation about what would happen with Amber Heard in the DC Extended Universe. We’ve ranged from rumors about her being fired altogether all the way to she’s taking over the whole thing. It’s been a wild ride that is still without a resolution. The latest rumor from insider Daniel Richtman has the truth falling somewhere in between. He’s reporting that Heard is angling to appear in another non-Aquaman movie.
This latest rumor has Amber Heard pushing to make an appearance in The Flash in some fashion. There aren’t a ton of details around this other than moderate speculation, but from a high-level perspective, it would make sense to want to get in on the action. This is shaping up to be a DC-ensemble film that will have some far-reaching consequences for the franchise as a whole. While it’s unlikely to happen, it doesn’t appear as if they’ve finalized every bit of the production either.
If Amber Heard were to work her Queen Mera character into The Flash somehow she’d be joining an already stacked cast for the movie. For starters, we’re getting multiple Batman versions with Ben Affleck reprising the role from the current DC Universe and Michael Keaton making a much-heralded return in an older version of Bruce Wayne that we saw in the original Tim Burton-led movie. Plus, Sasha Calle will be in there as Supergirl as well. And I think we can assume that if they are going to use the DC version of the Multiverse rather liberally, there is the chance for more surprises along the way.
As for Amber Heard and her current standing within the DC Extended Universe, it still remains to be seen. The current plan is to have her make a return to Atlantis when Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom hits the big screen. Speculation had been that Heard’s role would expand in this next movie, possibly to the point of receiving almost double billing with franchise star Jason Momoa. If that was the case, we’d see her much more in the fight with the possibility of the two teaming up even more so to take on the folks in Necrus.
Of course, there was some signaling around the DC plan with Amber Heard also when it came to Zack Snyder’s Justice League. That film featured more scenes with the actress, pitting her in some underwater fights and even having her still alive when we got to the Knightmare vision near the end. Sure, she for some reason completely changed her accent for this film, but that’s beside the point.
The speculation that Amber Heard could be leaving the DC Universe ramped up last summer and fall following the highly-publicized and very embarrassing court case between ex-husband and Johnny Depp and British tabloid The Sun. Details of their marriage came out in the case and there were some who thought Heard’s career was in jeopardy because of the negative publicity hit.
That doesn’t appear to be the case and Amber Heard is still fully entrenched in the DC Extended Universe. But to what extent remains to be seen. Could we see her in The Flash? If there was a spot to make a cameo, this would definitely be the film.
