A truffle hunter, played by Nicolas Cage, is living his life alone in Oregon with his prize-winning pig in peace. Until one day, he is attacked, and his pig is stolen from him. Now, he must go down to Portland to rescue his companion and confront his troubled past. Rather than taking a direction from Keanu Reeves’ John Wick or Liam Neeson’s Taken, the protagonist will not be killing these people left and right; the trailer gives a more somber tone. It will focus more on the emotional journey and soul searching that will occur as he tries to deal with the current situation.

This will mark Michael Sarnoski’s directorial debut. A filmmaker who has mostly dabbled with TV on shows like Fight Night Legacy and shorts like Love of the Dead. Penning the script will be the director alongside him will be Vanessa Block, who is also new as this is her first feature-length script

The casting goes a little larger than that. Nicolas Cage will be joined by Adam Arkin (Sons of Anarchy) and Alex Wolff (Hereditary). While most of the cast are fresh faces to the big screen, the three leads have had plenty of hits that audiences would recognize. Cage made his name from a wide range of films, from cult classics like Face/Off to winning an Oscar in Leaving Las Vegas and Adaptation. Wolff started young with the Nickelodeon show The Naked Brother’s Band. As he got older, his roles got darker with Ari Aster’s debut horror film Hereditary and portraying one of the Boston bombers in Patriot’s Day. Then Arkin rounds out the trio as he has made his name on the small screen with the Timothy Olyphant-led series Justified and Sons of Anarchy.

In recent years, Nicolas Cage has gone for more indie roles. The 2018 horror flick Mandy is an example of a niche that the 57-year-old actor has found. But he has still hit blockbusters occasionally. He was Spider-Man Noir in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Superman in Teen Titans Go! To the Movies.

Over the years, Nicolas Cage has gone beyond being in front of the camera as he has produced over a dozen of his projects. Currently, he has 17 producing credits, which he started in 2000. He often produces films he stars in, like 2006’s The Wicker Man and this year’s Willy’s Wonderland.

Nicolas Cage produced the film with Pulse Films, BlockBox Entertainment, Valparaiso Pictures, and his own company, Saturn Pictures. Neon will be releasing the film to the world.

Initially, Pig was filmed in the fall of 2019, so it would be have been set to release last year. Due to the pandemic, it was put on hold. Now that theaters are opening back up and more and more movies are going back to the old formula pre-pandemic, it will hit theaters on July 16.
