Grant Gustin Making An Appearance In An Upcoming DC Film

DC’s upcoming The Flash movie has been stuck in a development vortex for ages. Fortunately, things are finally moving forward and the film seems to have a lot of surprises in store for fans, with another Scarlet Speedster joining the cast. As reported by The Illuminerdi, Grant Gustin is set to make a cameo appearance in the film.
Grant Gustin, who currently stars in the CW series of the same name, will suit up as his version of Barry Allen of Arrowverse fame. Interestingly, this isn’t the first time the super speedsters have met. Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen ran into Gustin when the Arrowverse crossed over with the DC Extended Universe in Part Four of the television show’s Crisis on Infinite Earths mega event.
Bringing Grant Gustin into the film is in line with director Andy Muschietti’s promise to take The Flash where “the DC Universe hasn’t gone before” – into the Multiverse. The highly anticipated movie will see Ezra Miller return as The Flash/Barry Allen, who he first portrayed in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League, and Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
While the exact plot details are currently under wraps, the movie is said to be loosely based on Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert’s 2011 DC Comics crossover event Flashpoint. The story will follow Barry Allen as he travels back in time to prevent the death of his mother, which brings unintentional consequences to his timeline. Seems like a perfect way to get Grant Gustin into the picture.
The Flash is directed by Andy Muschietti from a screenplay by Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey). Marianne Jenkins, Michael Disco, and Barbara Muschietti will be serving as producers for the project.
Joining Miller in the cast are Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, Ron Livingston as Henry Allen, and Maribel Verdú as Nora Allen. Relative newcomer, Sasha Calle of The Young and the Restless fame will be taking on the role of Supergirl, making her the second actress to ever portray the character on the big screen. Additionally, Michael Keaton will reprise his role as Tim Burton’s Batman, along with Ben Affleck’s Caped Crusader. And Grant Gustin will guest star as The Flash/Barry Allen from (presumably) another timeline.
Although it’s just a cameo, Grant Gustin’s appearance in the film could open a lot of doors for the actor who has starred in various series and made-for-TV movies. But it was his role as the CW’s Scarlet Speedster that catapulted him to stardom.
The character first appeared in an episode of Arrow, which served as a backdoor pilot to The Flash series. The show premiered in 2014 and quickly became a fan favorite. It is currently airing its seventh season with an eighth season renewal already announced. The success of the Arrow spin-off led to various other shows such as Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, and many more. It will be interesting to see exactly how television Flash fits into the movie.
The Flash series returns to The CW this fall and The Flash movie is currently set for a November 4, 2022 release.
