A Huge Show Netflix Cancelled Is Now Getting Movies?
Looks like Netflix isn't done with this show yet.

It is now common news for Netflix subscribers when the streamer starts a day with ending a series. Netflix has canceled shows like The Irregulars, The Duchess, The Order, I Am Not Okay With This, Chilling Adventures, V Wars, Insatiable, etc- the list is longer than fans of these shows of the past would like it to be. But while the abrupt end these shows came to can not be reversed for at least 2-3 years (according to the clause Netflix keeps in series’ deals), a report by Daniel Richtman says that a recently canceled show will soon find a home in films created by the streamer.
The show we are talking about is the Netflix original series, Jupiter’s Legacy, which was canceled by the streamer less than four weeks after its debut. Based on Mark Millar’s comic book series of the same name and directed by Steven S. DeKnight (Netflix’s Daredevil), the series attracted primarily negative reviews from critics and holds a low rating of 38% on Rotten Tomatoes. The general consensus was that Jupiter’s Legacy was “too overstuffed and slow-moving to land many narrative punches.” While canceling the series makes sense, doesn’t the possibility that Netflix plans on continuing it via films sound improbable? Well, this is where the rest of Richtman’s short yet detailed report factors in.
According to his report, Netflix plans on making movies set in Jupiter’s Legacy’s universe, which doesn’t necessarily mean that the streamer will be giving the canceled show a chance to conclude the major cliffhanger its first season ended on. It has already been announced that even though Jupiter’s Legacy has been canceled, it doesn’t mean that Mark Millar’s collaboration with the streamer has ended as well. A live-action series order to adapt Supercrooks, based on the comic book series of the same name by Millar and Leinil Francis Yu, has been given by Netflix and it is already developing an anime series adaptation of the same. Supercrooks is set in the same universe in which Jupiter’s Legacy’s story took place but instead of superheroes, we will be introduced to eight supervillains planning a monumental heist, while dodging the authorities and superheroes.
So, if the universe we witnessed in Jupiter’s Legacy can continue without depicting the superheroes in the form of Supercrooks, it is possible for it to feature in a cinematic iteration as well. If Richtman’s report is indeed true, either Netflix plans to introduce an entirely fresh set of characters in the films, or maybe they will serve as the origin story of the supervillains we will be meeting in the upcoming series by Mark Millar.
Anyway, as for the other side of the coin, the chances of Jupiter’s Legacy continuing in a cinematic world are rather bleak given the criticism it received and the fact that its cast– headed by Josh Duhamel, Leslie Bibb, and Ben Daniels- has already been released from their respective contracts. Forget starring in a Jupiter’s Legacy film, their characters probably won’t even be returning for Supercrooks though, in the comic book, they crossed over into the supervillains’ story several times because they exist in the same universe.
