Brie Larson Joining Harry Potter?
Could Brie Larson's next big franchise be Harry Potter? Here's what we've heard.
This article is more than 2 years old
It’s no secret that actress Brie Larson likes franchises. While she won an Oscar for Room and was in movies like Scott Pilgrim, she’s shared stories about her auditions for The Hunger Games, Terminator, and most famously, Star Wars. Now, according to what insider Daniel Richtman has shared with his Patreon page, Brie Larson has decided she wants into the Harry Potter franchise.
At this point, all Richtman has shared is that he hears Brie Larson wants into Harry Potter. While Daniel Richtman doesn’t share what project Brie Larson may want to be a part of, there are three big possibilities that she could be considering, some of them only rumored. Of course, there are the Fantastic Beasts films. The third movie is still in production, so it would seem like she would be angling for the fourth movie. Some rumors of a Cursed Child adaptation have previously circulated, so that’s a possibility, though it seems a much slimmer one. In January, The Hollywood Reporter claimed that a live-action Harry Potter series will be coming to HBO Max. Expanding the profitable Harry Potter franchise makes sense for HBO Max.
Of these three options for Larson, the ongoing Fantastic Beasts series would seem like the most likely project Brie Larson would want to join.
We can assume this means that she wants to get a role in the fourth Fantastic Beasts movie. We have yet to see the third movie in the series, and it wouldn’t be out of the question for Brie Larson to manage a small role in the movie at this point, but it would be surprising. The third movie has undergone many delays and problems already. Of course, COVID was a factor. There was also the firing of Johnny Depp and the replacement of Mads Mikkelsen, who has said that the movie will include epic battle scenes and has been sharing what he can about the experience of replacing Depp. Then, in February, they had a positive COVID test on set that caused more delays for the movie.
While those delays could have possibly given Brie Larson a way into Fantastic Beasts 3, the fourth movie would be her best bet for an entry point into the Wizarding World. At this point, it’s believed that we’ll see Fantastic Beasts 3 drop in theaters on July 15, 2022. That’s a ways off, but possibly too soon for Brie Larson to get in a role in any substantial capacity. If she wants into the Harry Potter franchise, it would be safe to assume she wants a fair amount of screen time.
Currently, fans are guessing that we won’t see Fantastic Beasts 4 until the year 2024, unless they decide to rush production on that film. It isn’t out of the question that they may begin filming that movie sooner, but updates on the fourth installment haven’t been coming out, particularly since updates on the third movie have been so sparse. At this point, all we have is a rumor that Brie Larson wants into Harry Potter, with no information on what kind of role, what project, or how far along she’s gotten into this desire. It’s possible this is only a passing idea and nothing will come of it.
However, early in Brie Larson’s career, she auditioned for many franchises she didn’t make her way into. Now that she has star power from her time as Captain Marvel, it’s her moment to break into other big franchises. If she’s looking at Harry Potter, her odds are a lot better these days. It wouldn’t be too surprising to hear a casting announcement include her name down the line.
