Exclusive: Brie Larson Promised She’ll Be The New Face Of Marvel
This article is more than 2 years old
Brie Larson has had major career success in recent years. Some of her more notable accomplishments have been joining Marvel and her Oscar win for Best Actress in Room. This is the kind of success that makes you an in-demand actress, the kind that can afford to be very choosy about which projects to sign onto. At this point, what is her motivation to stay with the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Can her career continue to flourish and grow by playing Carol Danvers indefinitely? She could just as easily employ her valuable time toward conquering another franchise. Or, signing on for movies likely to win her another Oscar. This must be a risk that Marvel President Kevin Feige is aware of, and he seems to have made a smart move to keep that from happening.
Our trusted and proven inside source told us Kevin Feige made Brie Larson a huge promise: that she will be the face of the Marvel Cinematic Universe moving forward. This has her replacing Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man as the face of the franchise. While our source didn’t know Kevin Feige’s inside reasons for making such a promise to Brie Larson, it seems like a brilliant way to keep her focused on her career at Marvel. We know that the actress has expressed an interest in many other franchises in the past. Early on in her career, she auditioned for roles in The Hunger Games, Terminator, and Star Wars. This last one in particular is a shining interest of hers.
Now that she has the pull to make big career moves, joining other major franchises seems like a natural next move for Brie Larson. That is, unless she’s focused and busy on what she can do to promote Marvel and build her career within the franchise she’s already in.
What does Kevin Feige’s promise to Brie Larson mean for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? We’ll have to wait and see how he follows through. Our source didn’t share what he’ll do next, or if he specifically told Larson what this will mean for her and the MCU at large. We’re going to be keeping a close eye on Marvel to see how this plays out. For Robert Downey Jr., we knew this meant he appeared in many of the movies, marketing materials, and was center stage on most of the comic-con panels he appeared on.
Making Larson the face of the current Marvel Cinematic Universe is an interesting move for the company. Beyond keeping Brie Larson focused on this particular cinematic universe, why do it? Why select Captain Marvel as the face of the franchise? On one hand, no one can replace Robert Downey Jr. He was a natural face for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In part because Iron Man started the modern MCU when it premiered in 2008. Also because fans just adored him, and he was great at playing that up. It often felt like Robert Downey Jr. was Tony Stark when he appeared on panels, his attitude full of bravado and expertly playing into fan expectations.
When it comes to the Marvel fanbase, they’re fairly divided when it comes to Brie Larson herself. There’s been a history of controversy, beginning the moment she was announced for the role. Larson has been vocal about her political views, which is at least part of the reason for the divided fanbase when it comes to the actress. Meanwhile, Captain Marvel earned $1.128 billion at the worldwide box office. While we have yet to see her sequel solo movie, those numbers do speak for themselves. Despite the division in the fanbase, people did turn up to see Larson in impressive numbers. Kevin Feige must be taking the box office as read. There’s a vocal group that dislike her, but they seem to be in the minority. Or, at least, there aren’t enough of them upset enough to not go see her movies.
What can we expect to see happen for the Marvel Cinematic Universe following this promise from Feige? A whole lot more of Brie Larson.
