Film star Harrison Ford is fast approaching his 80th birthday, but there is no dearth in the amount of enthusiasm he has for returning to play the iconic archaeologist, Indiana Jones, for the fifth time. While it has been rumored that Indiana Jones 5 will be the last time that we get to see the actor donning the priceless fedora and jacket, it will still be a stellar experience we will finally get a chance to witness and the creation of the same has already begun!
It has been reported that Indiana Jones 5 is all set to begin shooting in the UK from next week. Recently, pictures of the props and sets for the shooting being build went viral and raised the obvious question- when will the cast arrive to start filming? Though we are yet to get any news about the rest of the confirmed cast- Boyd Holbrook, Mads Mikkelson, and Shaunette Renée Wilson- the presence of Harrison Ford in Henley has been shared by an Instagram post from the watch company Bremont. They recently posted an image of Ford at the company’s manufacturing center, “the Wing,” in Henley, Oxfordshire.
As of now, no official announcement has been made about the commencement of Indiana Jones 5’s production, but Harrison Ford’s presence in the UK right after reports of filming cropped up can’t be written off as a coincidence. And it is high time that the fifth film in the Indiana Jones series begins shooting after being in limbo since 2008’s Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
The delay in any conclusive announcement for the fifth film, several rumors and reports hinting that someone like Shia LeBoeuf or Chris Pratt will become Indiana Jones instead of Harrison Ford, and the iconic actor himself moving on to other franchises made fans of the films lose hope that they would ever see a fifth Indiana Jones film. But then, during the Disney Investor Day event last year, Disney announced Indiana Jones 5 is in the making and confirmed that Ford is not going to hand over his legacy just yet as he will be returning to continue his famed character’s journey. As to what this journey will entail is not known yet as details about the film’s plot and characters have been kept under tight wraps. All we know is that the script of the film is impressive enough that Mads Mikkelsen found it to be “everything I wished it to be.”
But unlike Harrison Ford, Steven Spielberg, who directed the first four Indiana Jones films, won’t be resuming his position as the film’s director. James Mangold, best known as the director of Logan and the Oscar-nominated Ford v Ferrari, has been brought on board to helm the upcoming adventure of Indiana Jones. Steven Speilberg is still attached to the project as a “hands-on” executive producer along with Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall stepping up as producers. While the film’s production and subsequent release has faced multiple delays, barring any further impediments Indiana Jones 5 is all set to hit theatres in July 2022.
