Katee Sackhoff Pays Tribute To Her First TV Husband

Katee Sackhoff has become something of a staple in the science-fiction genre especially on the small screen with a number of career-defining roles over the years. And she’s still very much a part of things these days as well with a character in one of the biggest franchises around. But she spent some time on social media this week throwing it back a little old school, giving props to her first television husband.
It’s clear that Katee Sackhoff is just having a little fun on Instagram, thinking back more than a decade to when she was playing Kara “Starbuck” Thrace on Battlestar Galactica. The accomplished and cocky pilot was one of the stars of the series but does “settle down” some when she eventually marries Samuel “Longshot” Anders. This is the picture she posted of her and Michael Trucco on the set of the show.
Looking back on the picture, you can see what Katee Sackhoff would view this time on the show fondly. Hers and Trucco’s story arcs became central to the overall story and important to how the Cylons and humans interacted. They weren’t married right away on the program and there’s more to his Anders character than meets the eye. But their relationship did have a way of somewhat humanizing and softening Starbuck during the third season.
Battlestar Galactica remains one of the greatest science fiction television series of all time, lasting four seasons with two movies placed in there as well. Katee Sackhoff was key to this, piloting the Vipers against the Cylon attacks and ultimately becoming one of the true heroes of the show. It wasn’t her first role, but it’s definitely the one that put her on the map. Her Starbuck character routinely comes up in the discussion of the best sci-fi television characters ever.
The time on Battlestar Galactica would help land Katee Sackhoff a role in Fox’s 24 as well and a role in Riddick with Vin Diesel. But it’s also, somewhat surprisingly led to quite a bit of voice work for the actress. In addition to having a few different roles in Batman animated movies, she’s also been part of the Star Wars franchise as the Bo-Katan Kryze on Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels as well.
And whether it was planned or not, she went from behind the microphone as those characters to playing Katan in a live-action role now as well. She appeared in the second season of The Mandalorian on Disney+ and will be reprising the role going forward. There’s even been talk of her getting her own series within this part of the Star Wars universe. This timeline for stories, revolving around that original show has been steadily expanding and with Rangers of the New Republic being canceled, there’s an opening for another character to step in.
All that said, it’s good to see Katee Sackhoff still remembers those roles that got her started and who’s been with her along the way. Maybe it isn’t a true, real-life husband, but the relationships are meaningful nonetheless.
