Future Warner Bros Movie Characters May All Be LBGT?
According to the latest news, Warner Bros. will be adding a lot of LGBT characters to the DC Extended Universe in the future

The DC Extended Universe continues to expand, working its way away from the core Justice Leaguers who were the staple when they started. Over the next many years we are going to see kinds of new characters work their way into the Warner Bros. mix in a number of different ways. And apparently, it won’t just adding new characters willy-nilly to the group. According to insider Daniel Richtman, there is a plan to make sure at least 10 LGBT characters are part of the group as they expand the roster. It’s a bold undertaking by the studio in that they have major plans to really bring a whole new look to their current franchise.
Richtman doesn’t speculate on who these characters would be in the future but rather just that it’s part of the plan in DC and at Warner Bros. to make sure it is in their process. That includes creating new characters or possibly establishing existing characters as LGBT along the way. Considering how this studio is in rapid expansion mode, there will be a number of different opportunities to do so. And though 10 new characters seems like a big undertaking, it could be a drop in the bucket compared to how much they are adding in the next few years.
Some characters we already know will be LGBT within the DC Universe. With the studio developing a new Green Lantern series, they’ve already said that one of the core group will be gay. There’s some reason to think that could be Alan Scott who is gay in certain comic book arcs. That would likely be the way they take this character considering the precedence from the printed stories, but that’s a bit of speculation.
There are other characters who could be LGBT coming into the DC Extended Universe as well. In the comic books, it’s been the case for a number of different superheroes. That could come in the form of characters we know but just haven’t been added to this particular stable of characters. Some of those would be Batwoman, whose Kate Kane is revealed to be gay in some stories. There’s also John Constantine whose been bisexual the comic books. And we already have Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn whose character is has had a relationship with Poison Ivy before. So DC isn’t short on options as they make this push to have their franchise be more diverse and inclusive.
What comes of DC’s push for more LGBT characters remains to be seen. What’s totally clear is just how much they have coming to the screen in the next few years. While they aren’t to the level of the Marvel Cinematic Universe by any stretch of the imagination, there is certainly a lot to look forward to. Just some of the offerings will be this summer’s The Suicide Squad with Black Adam, The Flash, and Aquaman 2 all on the docket. And they have lots more in the works as well. It’s an exciting time for the franchise. With inclusivity a big part of the plan moving forward, it will be a rich universe for sure.
