Brie Larson is already firmly established in one franchise, maybe the biggest one out there. But that doesn’t mean she can’t have her sights set on one just as big if stars aligned. That could be the case with the actress who’s been rumored around landing a Star Wars role at some point. And according to insider Daniel Richtman, Larson even has a specific character in mind were she to join this group. She wants to play Mara and be the most powerful Jedi in the entire franchise. Dream big sister!
Brie Larson is referring to Mara Jade Skywalker, a character who’s appeared in a number of Star Wars companion books but never actually on the big or small screen yet within the franchise. it’s unclear if they ever make her part of the overall story though apparently, Larson has eyed up her addition to the franchise at some point. In the stories, Mara is married to Luke Skywalker though it’s unclear if that’s how they’d take her story were they to add her now. It doesn’t seem as if Luke is really the marrying type, though it could be part of some story in between the original trilogy and the sequel trilogy. There are a lot of ways to go with this character.
Making Brie Larson as Mara the most powerful Jedi in the franchise would likely mean rewriting the character’s story some, though that’s not all that big of an issue considering her other appearances in the printed pages aren’t considered canon anyway. It would mean reexploring her origins and her relationships with other characters in the Star Wars universe. It might mean leveling her up significantly though there were times when she actually becomes a fully trained Jedi, reaching the level of Master. There is some context for making her a key component in upcoming stories.
If Brie Larson is asking to play Mara Jade in a Star Wars movie, it points to the idea that she’s well aware of this universe and some of the deeper reaches of the character pool. Mara is popular among expanded universe crowds and has a strong storyline when it comes to the New Republic being formed during that arc. Again, this isn’t the way the Star Wars folks took these stories with the sequel trilogy so it could either mean some retconning or simply making the character’s relationship with Luke much different.
Before Brie Larson was to step foot in the Star Wars universe, if it ever even happened, she’s still firmly entrenched in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we speak. She’s gearing up to reprise her role as Carol Danvers/ Captain Marvel in the sequel The Marvels. Though a sequel to Captain Marvel, the title is clearly moving it away from that original film and this one will be more of a torch-passing flick with the introduction of Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/ Ms. Marvel. The plan is for it to come out in November of 2022. Larson is in full training mode for that movie now.
When you aren’t catching her in the MCU, or maybe one day in the Star Wars franchise as well, Brie Larson is still running her wildly popular YouTube channel which explores her daily routines, among other aspects of her life.
