Introspective, enterprising, and notably down-to-earth, multi-awarded pop sensation Demi Lovato appears to many as among the least likely celebrities to admit to being a lifelong UFO supporter. But the former X-Factor judge is unremitting in this regard; she maintains UFOs are humanity’s primary check and balance. In her eyes, being scrutinized by a more advanced species could provide us with the much-needed incentive to start matching up and treating our own planet better. It’s a conservationist’s stand on ufology and probably the only assessment that matters. Lovato believes in UFOs enough to fastidiously defend their existence against legions of cynics.

And now Demi Lovato is ripe to take her science fiction fixation to the next level by hosting Peacock’s Unidentified, a four-part unscripted limited series on NBC’s streaming platform that will have the 28-year-old circling the globe for traces of UFO phenomena, questioning experts, and visiting government archives along the way. She is joined by her sister Dallas and common friend Matthew — who also happens to be a skeptic on everything UFOs. Peacock describes the show as follows: “While consulting with leading experts, Demi, Dallas, and Matthew will investigate recent eyewitness encounters, uncover secret government reports, and conduct tests at known UFO hot spots.” Lovato made the announcement on her public Instagram two days ago.

The Grammy-nominated singer spent days in Joshua Tree National Park at the height of the 59th quadrennial United States presidential election mulling over UFOs, climate change, and social responsibility with Dr. Steven Greer, the Charlotte-based founder of the Center for the Study of Extraterrestrial Intelligence (CSETI) in Largo, Maryland and a leading authority on UFOs. Lovato elaborated on her ecoactivist stance on ufology on Instagram and was noted to have said, “If we were to get 1% of the population to meditate and make contact, we would force our governments to acknowledge the truth about extraterrestrial life among us and change our destructive habits destroying our planet.” Speaking about Unidentified, NBCUniversal describes Demi Lovato as “a true believer,” a far cry from most eyewitnesses who have caved in response to public ridicule. Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield spoke out about his own UFO experience recently, but was immediately reduced to a punchline. NBC classifies Unidentified as an exciting new saga in Demi Lovato’s life and joyously adds: “During this courageous adventure, she hopes to convince her friends, family and her millions of followers that not only are there intelligent beings beyond Earth but that they are already here!”

Unidentified With Demi Lovato may be unscripted, but is still headlined creatively by a writing team led by documentary vet Andrew Nock, who will also be executive producing. Nock represents GoodStory Entertainment, the broadcasting firm behind the Peacock show. Record label manager Scooter Braun is also involved via SB Projects, a “diversified entertainment company” he founded. Lovato, Braun, and Nock are producing Unidentified With Demi Lovato with Scott Manson, Allison Kaye, JD Roth, Adam Greener, and Sara Hansemann. The series is still in pre-production and doesn’t have a release date at the moment.

Demi Lovato has had a busy two years of pandemic, spearheading concerts, green-lighting films and television specials, and guesting on other people’s shows. Last year, she played Söngvakeppnin winner Katiana Lindsdóttir in the Netflix film adaptation of international singing competition Eurovision in Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga. The Oscar-nominated movie impressed audiences with its heartfelt performances and also starred Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams as Icelandic contestants Lars Erickssong and Sigrit Ericksdóttir. Pierce Brosnan and Dan Stevens are also in the film as Erickssong’s disapproving father and Russian singer Alexander Lemtov, respectively. Lovato notably sang her own parts.

A four-part tell-all about the platinum-awarded vocalist’s life, loves, and demons, aptly titled Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil, came out on YouTube only this year. The documentary ran from March 23 to April 6 and was named after Lovato’s song of the same name. It was the third single in the artist’s seventh studio album, Dancing with the Devil… the Art of Starting Over. Lovato was recently tapped as a guest judge on GLAAD-approved LGBTQ reality competition Legendary and will be featuring in another Peacock series, food issues comedy Hungry, as both its lead star and executive producer.
