Edward Norton might not be as prolific as he used to be, but he is still a notable addition to any project. The actor is able to bring a ton of unique flair to any role and stands out among even the most noteworthy of casts. That individuality is going to come in handy for his latest project as the former Hulk has just been announced as one of the members of what might be the most anticipated Netflix sequel of all time.
Deadline reports that Edward Norton has joined the ever-expanding ensemble of Knives Out 2, the Rian Johnson sequel that was scooped up by streaming giant Netflix along with its other follow-up, Knives Out 3. This news is hot on the heels of another casting announcement for the film that revealed Dave Bautista will also be adding his talents to the mix. Clearly, this sequel is not going to rest on its laurels and hope folks will check it out simply because of its sequel status. These two casting announcements prove that Knives Out 2 is going for the same kind of high-profile ensemble that made the original film so enticing to audiences.
It looks like Deadline was unable to ascertain who Edward Norton will be playing in the Knives Out sequel, but if the follow-up plans to imitate the same format as the first film, we are certain Norton will be one of the many suspects in the murder mystery that Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc will be investigating. Between the castings of Norton and Bautista, this should indicate how many stars want to work with Rian Johnson after the success of the first film. It also would seem to point towards the script being a particularly compelling one. If it can manage to match the same comedic energy and twisty plotting of its predecessor, it has a lot going in its favor.
Edward Norton is hopping on one of the most expensive sequels Netflix has ever obtained. Reportedly, the streaming service paid upwards of $450 million to obtain the exclusive distribution rights to Knives Out 2 and 3. That should also emphasize just how good the powers-that-be feel about Rian Johnson’s newest addition to his whodunnit franchise. The first film ended up being a genuine smash hit, bringing in over $311 million on a reported budget of only $40 million. Clearly, Netflix feels confident that the two follow-up films will drive their subscriber numbers up when they are released on the platform.
Shooting on Knives Out 2 is scheduled to begin this summer in Greece, so we won’t be surprised to see some set photos with Edward Norton in them start to pop up in a few months. Considering the mystery nature of the story, we have to believe that plot details will be kept tightly under wraps so that nothing will get spoiled before release. Hopefully, we can expect to see Knives Out 2 on Netflix sometime next year. If all goes well, the streaming giant will have another hit on its hands that gets everybody talking.
