While Moon Knight has been mostly kept under wraps, we just caught our first glimpse of Ethan Hawke on set as the show's villain

Production of Marvel’s Disney+ series, Moon Knight, is currently ongoing in full steam in Budapest. Fans have been hoping to catch a glimpse of Oscar Isaac, playing Marc Specter a.k.a. Moon Knight, in his hopefully mind-numbingly fantastic superhero costume and filming his scenes with his co-stars, Ethan Hawke and May Calamawy. Well, Marvel Cinematic Universe fans are in luck as recently Hawke was spotted on the set of the series and his entire attire might have just given away what character he is actually playing in Moon Knight.
While all the other series Marvel has announced- Ms. Marvel, Secret Invasion, etc- have a clear connection to the MCU as a whole, how Moon Knight will fit into the existing superhero world is still a mystery. But what still has fans excited is the names of the stars attached to the series- Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke, who will be finally making their MCU debut. And while we don’t know when we will be catching a glimpse of Isaac in all his superhero glory, Budapest Reporter has shared a picture of Ethan Hawke from the sets of the series. He is accompanied by a member of the crew, dressed in what appears to be a brown suit, sporting long, greyish hair, and reportedly holding a cane which is not visible in the picture.
Right now, the most mysterious part of the series is Ethan Hawke’s yet-to-disclosed role as all that is known about his character is that he will be playing a villain to Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight. Thankfully, the new set photos might have just given us some answers.
Judging by his appearance, he could be playing Marvel’s Dracula, the villain to Marc Specter’s alter-ego, Moon Knight. Ethan Hawke’s look also hints at the possibility that he could be Bertrand Crawley, a homeless man in the comics who is an informant for Moon Knight. But unless Marvel is planning on putting a villainous spin on Crawley, it is Ethan Hawke as Dracula that makes more sense.
If Ethan Hawke is indeed playing Dracula then it also connects to Marvel’s Blade reboot, starring the two-time Oscar-winner, Mahershala Ali in the titular role and establishes the presence of vampires in the MCU before the upcoming film explores them in-depth.
But at this point, all we can do is speculate until either Marvel officially announces what character Ethan Hawke is playing in Moon Knight or some other set photo leaks gives us a proper look at his character in action. Production of Moon Knight is currently underway in a small town called Szentendre in Hungary, near the capital of Budapest, and is reportedly gunning for a 2022 release. To maintain the secrecy of the series and keep things under wraps, the whole main square of Szentendre is now locked with even traffic restrictions in place.
And meanwhile, in case you are hungry for more Ethan Hawke films, you won’t have to wait long. The actor has an upcoming crime thriller, The Guilty, that will debut on Netflix this year. He was also recently cast in The Northman alongside Nicole Kidman, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Willem Dafoe and is also the newest addition to the Blumhouse feature, The Black Phone.
