Ryan Reynolds Ready To Hand Deadpool Over To A Person Of Color?

With Ryan Reynolds now officially a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the possibilities for his character, Deadpool, have expanded significantly. Deadpool 3 will be a big deal for multiple reasons, chief among them being the fact that it will solidly connect Fox’s X-Men franchise with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. WandaVision kind of did that by bringing back Evan Peters, but that ended up disappointing a ton of fans who were hoping for a Mephisto reveal. Now, we are getting word that Ryan Reynolds wants to turn Deadpool over to a person of color.
According to Hollywood gossip writer Daniel Richtman, Ryan Reynolds wants to hand over the role of Deadpool/Wade Wilson to a person of color. Like with most of Richtman’s scoops, this is a rumor and should be taken as such until we hear something more official from the studio or the trades. Sure, he often ends up being correct, but the point stands.
As cool as this would be, it directly contradicts previous reports that Ryan Reynolds wants complete control over Deadpool’s role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Well, it mostly contradicts them. It is possible he could absolutely still maintain control while handing the role over to someone else, but every report we have seen maintains that Reynolds is here to stay. This just reinforces the fact that while these rumors are fun opportunities to speculate and theorize, they are still rumors and cannot be assumed factual until more official word comes from people directly involved with the project. Anyone can say anything on the internet, so it is important to use discretion when reading rumors and stories such as this one.
Regardless of what is actually going on with Ryan Reynolds and Deadpool, it will be interesting to see what becomes of this rumor. This would certainly be a shake-up, but it would not be a bad one at all. Marvel would not even really need to justify it, either. Sure, many people would demand some kind of narrative explanation for the casting change, but Marvel does not need to explain itself when trying to be more inclusive.
In addition to this latest Ryan Reynolds rumor, there have been whispers regarding some seismic changes—and crowd-pleasing additions—to the ever-evolving Marvel Cinematic Universe. Among the more popular ones are early reports of Vincent D’Onofrio‘s return to the role of Wilson Fisk/Kingpin in a future Marvel Cinematic Universe project, as well as those still-swirling rumors that former Spider-Men Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire would be joining current Spidey Tom Holland in this year’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. That particular rumor has not yet been confirmed, and debate around whether or not it will happen continues to rage.
