Some Marvel movies make bigger changes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe than others. It sounds like Thor: Love and Thunder is going to be one of those stories that affects things for a long time to come. We know that the villain in the upcoming movie is Gorr the God Butcher. In the comics, he’s a villain on a vengeance mission, traveling through universes. His objective? Kill gods. He’s a major villain for Thor in particular. In the comics, Gorr makes Thor unworthy and unable to pick up Mjolnir, the hammer. We can expect a lot of fairly terrible things when a villain of this magnitude shows up. According to a new rumor, we can expect to see a lot of beloved characters die.
This rumor comes from a message board post on 4Chan, via ScreenGeek. The original poster claims that they work in the industry and made claims about what will be happening in Hawkeye, Loki, She-Hulk, and Thor: Love and Thunder. Of course, this is only a rumor, not a guarantee, so you’ll want to keep that in mind. The rumor gives clear details on who is going to die. According to the person claiming to be an insider, some of the deaths will include The Grandmaster (played by Jeff Goldblum), Lady Sif (played by Jaimie Alexander), and Korg, a character voiced by Taika Waititi.
While those deaths in Thor: Love and Thunder may be more serious, there are also going to be a run-through of deaths that are going to be more comical in nature. This movie is being directed by Taika Waititi, who directed Thor: Ragnarok, so that makes some sense. According to the rumor, the comical death scenes will belong to the fake characters, so the fake version of Loki played by Matt Damon, the fake version of Thor played by Luke Hemsworth, the fake version of Hela played by Melissa McCarthy, and the fake version of Odin played by Sam Neill.
The insider also claims that there will be a particularly interesting scene where Mantis and Nebula are hurt. These characters are more well-known to Marvel fans from their appearances in Guardians of the Galaxy. In Thor: Love and Thunder, Thor will be fighting off Gorr. Then, Drax will show up and carry Mantis and Nebula away to keep them safe after they’ve been hurt. The insider added that he doesn’t know where the other Guardians are during this scene. Gorr and Thor continuing fighting and Thor loses. He is forced to run away in order to survive and is apparently badly hurt because the insider adds that Lady Sif nurses him back to health. Note that the insider added that Gorr will kill Lady Sif in this movie, so apparently her death happens after this scene, and after we’ve had some time to appreciate her character.
The insider also added that they believe Russell Crowe will be playing Zeus in Thor: Love and Thunder. This is something other insiders have previously said. Marvel confirmed that Crowe is in the movie after people saw him hanging out with the cast at bars in Australia, but the studio hasn’t confirmed what part he’ll be playing.
As more insiders share what they’re hearing and seeing on set in Australia, we’ll continue to learn more rumors about what we might expect from the release of Thor: Love and Thunder. We’ll be seeing what actually happens when the movie releases in theaters on February 11, 2022.
