Exclusive: Wedding Crashers 2 Is Happening, Owen Wilson And Vince Vaughn Set To Star
Wedding Crashers 2 is a go and lead actors Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn are back.
Update 2022: The Giant Freakin Robot exclusive scoop appeared confirmed, but there have been no other updates on Wedding Crashers 2 with Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson.
Wedding Crashers 2 seemed like one of those comedy sequels that was never going to manifest. The 2005 comedy was a hit when it released and continues to be remembered fondly by its fans, but nothing was ever able to gel together in order for a legitimate follow-up to ever get off the ground. Whether it was scheduling issues or other obstacles, Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson were never quite in the right place at the right time for a new entry to get made. For whatever reasons, the stars were just not aligning and many fans of the film figured that a sequel was simply not in the cards.
Well, thanks to one of our trusted and proven insider sources, Giant Freakin Robot has managed to get our hands on some definitive information that confirms Wedding Crashers 2 is a go. Vince Vaughn, Owen Wilson, and director David Dobkin are all set to return for the sequel. We were not able to confirm whether or not other members from the original film are being sought after to return, but we can assuredly state that those three are on board for the project. There does not seem to be a set date as far as when the studio wants production to start but we assume that has to do with what other actors they are able to get back for the follow-up.
Obviously, Wedding Crashers 2 would be more than a little uninteresting if Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn weren’t coming back in their leading roles as John Beckwith and Jeremy Grey. The two are the centerpieces of the original movie and a sequel necessitates that they return so that audiences can catch up with their characters and what they have been up to in the nearly two decades since the original movie. However, we have to hope that Rachel McAdams and Isla Fisher will also get to return in the new movie. Fisher has spoken about her strong desire to play Gloria Cleary one more time as it was the role that helped jumpstart her career as an actress. As for McAdams, she is definitely keeping busy and it could come down to a matter of scheduling.
When it comes to the story for Wedding Crashers 2, director David Dobkin has actually hinted at a possible direction for the sequel. “Ten or more years later, all of a sudden these guys are in their mid to late 40s and they end up single — what do they do? That’s interesting to me, because I know guys in their mid to late 40s who have ended up single, whether it’s out of marriages that didn’t work out or they just didn’t find anyone to marry, and it’s a head trip for men, the idea of maybe I’m not going to be a dad, maybe I’m not going to be married,” the director said. So it looks like we could see Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson single once again but dealing with a far more self-reflective conflict. That certainly seems like a good starting point for the plot.
We will certainly be keeping our eyes and ears peeled for any other big news regarding Wedding Crashers 2, but we are excited to be the ones to break this news. Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson clearly have a lot of love for the characters of John Beckwith and Jeremy Grey, and it will be intriguing to learn just what they have in store for these two in this new installment.
