Celebrities playing video games is now a thing since we’re witnessing television and movie stars, and even some politicians, on gaming streams. And now, American actress and filmmaker Brie Larson, a.k.a. Captain Marvel from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, teaches Tessa Thompson (Thor: Ragnarok) how to play Fortnite. Yes, you read that right; you can now watch Brie Larson teach Tessa Thompson how to play Fortnite.
In case you didn’t know, Brie Larson has her own YouTube channel, where she regularly posts a ton of entertaining content. The recent video of Larson playing Fortnite was in response to a Twitter conversation in which fans asked her to post a video of herself playing. Larson wasted no time and tagged Thompson in a response tweet, prompting her to join the fun. Luckily for the fans, the Valkyrie was already pursuing new pastimes and eagerly accepted the invitation.
The video starts with two discussing Brie Larson’s gaming habits, which are apparently extensive. The actress disclosed having spent more than 300 hours on Fortnite in the first couple of months of the pandemic. We can only wonder how much playtime she clocked in by now, but according to her, she “lost a lot of her life” to the game. On the other hand, Tessa Thompson hasn’t played video games since her childhood but admits to doing a bit of research to prepare for the video. The two then discuss the basics of the game and go on to show Larson’s extensive library of Fortnite character skins, which includes the Captain Marvel skin.
During their game time, Brie Larson and Tessa Thompson continue to discuss different aspects of the game, with Larson at the controller and Thompson issuing commands. However, Tessa Thompson/Valkyrie was more interested in the game and providing moral support than playing, but we hope to see her in her own gaming stream, someday. Larson and Thompson are hardly the first to stream their gaming sessions. Just earlier this month, we witnessed Jimmy Fallon’s debut on Twitch, in which he played Among Us with friends and other streamers, for charity purposes. We even saw Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez playing and streaming video games.
It’s pretty clear that Brie Larson has some skill when it comes to Fortnite, and Tessa Thompson certainly seems interested in trying the game herself. Though the audience saw the two in separate Marvel Cinematic Universe titles, and they only briefly appeared together in Avengers: Endgame, it’s clear that Brie Larson and Tessa Thompson have some rapport outside the movie sets and make a good team. The audience would undoubtedly want to see more of them on both the big screen and gaming streams.
Brie Larson is scheduled to return to the big screen as Carol Danvers once again in Captain Marvel 2, which is currently in pre-production, and Tessa Thompson is currently filming Thor: Love and Thunder. Will we ever see them both together on the big screen remains a mystery, but when they’re not fighting movie baddies, they’re fighting opponents in Fortnite.
