Dwayne Johnson Reveals First Photo From The Set Of His Superhero Movie
After much waiting and major hype, DCEU's Black Adam is finally happening as Dwayne Johnson has posted about Day 1 of production.

Just like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the DC Extended Universe too is coming on track and picking up all the slack caused by the pandemic. While on one hand, we have MCU’s Black Widow releasing soon on the Disney+ platform, after much waiting and hype, the Dwayne Johnson DCEU film Black Adam has finally started filming with the entire cast and now we have one of our first glimpses from the set.
In a late-night Instagram post this Thursday, Dwayne Johnson announced day one of production on the Shazam! spin-off. In his post, which included a picture from the first day of shooting, the Black Star shared his excitement over finally getting to work on the film with the film’s director Jaume Collet-Serra, director of Photography, Lawrence Sher, and the rest of the “all-star” production crew that is striving to create a special and successful film from day one.
The Black Adam film has been in the making for years now and Dwayne Johnson himself has been attached to the project since 2008. It was only recently that after a million teasers and hints, the film is finally happening. Recently, before the film’s production commenced, Dwayne Johnson had been busy getting “Black Adam ready” and had posted a snap of his impressive superhero physique. But given Black Adam’s history in DC comics, will he be a superhero or a supervillain?
In DC Comics, Black Adam was an Egyptian prince that was chosen by the wizard Shazam to be his successor and receive all his powers. But it corrupted him and Shazam was forced to lock him for centuries until he is released in the present times. He’s still itching to exact revenge on Shazam, who has already passed on his powers to 14-year-old Billy Batson.
Dwayne Johnson has confirmed to ComicBook.com that Black Adam is more of an anti-hero than a superhero. He is a “ruthless keeper of justice” who believes in an eye for an eye. But even though he starts off as a villain, he soon becomes an anti-hero and may even become a hero (or not). Johnson explained that over the years, while they were planning a Black Adam film, they had designed many different iterations of the DC character and though each one of them was amazing, their current trajectory for him is “the right one to root our story in the beginning, this origin story.” He assured that no matter which shade of Black Adam fans like, they will love what he and Warner Bros. have in store for the character.
Apart from Dwayne Johnson, the rest of the star cast includes Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, and Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate, while Sarah Shahi, James Cusati-Moyer, Marwan Kenzari, and Bodhi Sabongui are attached to the film yet to be revealed roles. The film is set to introduce the Justice Society of America.
Black Adam is being helmed by director Jaume Collet-Serra and penned by screenwriters Adam Sztykiel, Rory Haines, and Sohrab Noshirvani. The film is being produced by Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, and Hiram Garcia of Seven Bucks Productions with the New Line Cinema and DC Films production. Initially, the film had a December 2021 release date, but due to the pandemic-induced delays, Black Adam is now set to release in theaters on July 29, 2022.
