Spider-Man Teaming Up With One Of Marvel’s Most Popular Heroes?
Spider-Man could be spending some serious screen time with a beloved Marvel character.

The Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool, meets everyone’s favorite web-head, Spider-Man? On the big screen? In the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Yes, please!
Hollywood gossip writer Daniel Richtman reports that Tom Holland wants his Spider-Man to have a ton of screen time with Ryan Reynolds’s Deadpool, and we should all be here for that. It is unclear when, where, or how the two superheroes would join forces, but if it happens, it will be a doozy. Richtman’s scoops have been spot-on before, but for now please treat this as a rumor.
Early last year, The Direct came forth with the report that Deadpool’s role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be “explosive.” We have heard some details from Marvel Studios architect Kevin Feige via Collider, but very little has been revealed so far beyond what we already know: that Deadpool 3 will be an R-rated Marvel Cinematic Universe movie and won’t be filming this year, and Ryan Reynolds is currently helping out with the script.
The prospect of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man teaming up with Deadpool is certainly exciting, but again, it is just a rumor at this point. It is worth noting that Deadpool’s inclusion in the Marvel Cinematic Universe makes this a bit more likely than some may realize, especially when you consider the quippy attitudes present in both Wade Wilson and Peter Parker. Both of them are known for their snark, so putting them together for a scene or three would probably bring out hilarity for which we can never truly be prepared. They aren’t super similar personality-wise, but their dueling approaches to dealing with bad guys would make for some seriously great comedy. And tonally, a team-up would honestly work really well for each character.
Spider-Man and Deadpool have worked together in the comics many times before, so this would not be completely out of left field. Spider-Man/Deadpool was a 50-issue comics series that ran from 2016 to 2019 and featured the talents of writers and artists such as Joe Kelly, Ed McGuinness, Scott Aukerman, Gerry Dugan, Todd Nauck, Chris Bachalo, and many others. It was a fun series that explored the dynamic between the two heroes, so maybe whichever film they team up in will take a page from that run and do something really fun and funny with it.
To a certain degree, it is tough to imagine Deadpool and Spider-Man never meeting. The Marvel Cinematic Universe presents Marvel Studios with the amazing opportunity to throw these characters into situations together and watch them fight, bicker, and argue about the morality of killing. Comic fans will know that Deadpool has no qualms slicing off heads and dismembering enemies while Spidey takes great offense to the very idea of taking a life.
If you are itching to see Tom Holland in action again and don’t want to wait for a team-up that may or may not happen, you can catch him as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Jon Watts’s highly anticipated Spider-Man: No Way Home, which is currently slated for a December 17, 2021 theatrical release. It will be here before you know it! Deadpool 3 does not have a release date yet, and likely won’t for a while.
