In the world of game crossovers, Fortnite is the king. This online battle royal video game title already introduced countless fictional characters from the world of video games, movies, and comic books. Now, Fortnite’s crazy train picks up more passengers for its super-fun ride, and none others than the characters from the horror genre’s top video game, Resident Evil.
According to Twitter user @MikeDulaimi, Epic Games sent out a randomly distributed survey which measures the respondent’s interest in a wide variety of topics, ranging from stream-services celebrities, fashion and lifestyle, music, and video game characters. The latter inquiry topic seems most interesting to gamers, as it might reveal the several characters from other franchises that could possibly make an appearance in the battle royal. The survey lists three Resident Evil characters, two of which are set to appear in the upcoming Resident Evil Village.
Epic Games’ survey lists the characters from various video game franchises, including Devil May Cry’s Dante, Street Fighter’s Ryu, Grand Theft Auto’s CJ, and Mortal Kombat’s Scorpion, and many more. The appearance of Ryu from the Street Fighter franchise in the trailer for Fortnite’s Chapter 2 Season 6 was already dubbed as “the most epic crossover in entertainment” by fans and media.
None of the Resident Evil characters made it to the new cinematic trailer, but that doesn’t mean we won’t see them in-game. So far, the survey listed only three characters: Jill Valentine, Ethan Winters, and Lady Dimitrescu. Jill Valentine is one of the most iconic characters from the 1996’s Resident Evil video game, while the latter two are set to appear in the Resident Evil Village.
Ethan Winters was first introduced as a protagonist of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, as a system’s engineers looking for his missing wife. He has to traverse and overcome horrific environments and situations to find a cure for a mutagen disease called the “Mold.” The story was a massive success, and RE7 sold over 8.5 million copies. His character is set to appear in Resident Evil Village, along with the game’s new villain – Lady Dimitrescu.
Lady Dimitrescu is probably the most popular choice of three Resident Evil characters in the survey, despite the scarcity of information regarding the character. Not much is known about the mutant-human countess apart from her vampirism practices and her towering height (approximately 9’6”). Still, Lady Alcina Dimitrescu became an overnight sensation after Capcom revealed the title’s official gameplay trailer, which might tip the scales in her favor.
Epic Games is no stranger to conducting surveys with select users as a way of steering their releases to appeal to the masses. Fortnite fans may remember Epic’s inquiry about Lara Croft from last year. Interestingly enough, Lara Croft’s skin has become available in Fortnite Season 6, as a homage of sorts, to Tomb Raider’s 25th anniversary.
Did Epic decide to “invest” in the rising popularity of Lady Dimitrescu? With Resident Evil Village releasing in May this year, fans are excited to see Ethan Winters and Lady Dimitrescu. If we are to believe the hype, they’re also super-excited to see them in Fortnite.
