See The Original Mighty Ducks Back In Uniform As Adults
The Mighty Ducks are getting their own rebooted series on Disney+. But now we see that some of the original team have returned for the show

The Mighty Ducks has gotten a new look for a new generation, but that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate some of the team who originally got the job done on the ice all those years ago. And though the current iteration of the team is a totally new group of hockey stars, it looks like some of the original cast is coming back into the fold as well. Take a look at some of the stars of The Mighty Ducks movie gathered back on the ice for the first time in decades.
The Mighty Ducks: Gamechangers is set to debut on Disney+ on March 26th and will bring back Emilio Estevez in the role of Gordon Bombay. The series is set to follow many of the same themes from the original movies with a group of underdogs putting together a hockey team to face off against a much bigger and better-funded opponent. What wasn’t known exactly with the production was whether any of the original cast would come back in any fashion. From these latest pictures, it looks like we have our answer.
Pictured in the group are Connie Moreau (Marguerite Moreau), Guy Germaine (Garette Ratliff Henson), Fulton Reed (Elden Henson), Adam Banks (Vincent Larusso), Ken Wu (Justin Wong), and Lester Averman (Matt Doherty). At the center, of course, is Emilio Estevez as Coach Bombay. All except Justin Wong appeared in the original The Mighty Ducks movie. He came on the scene in D2. These characters were part of the original team’s run through the Minneapolis youth hockey circuit when they defeated the evil Hawks. They’d go on to more international accolades in the sequel when they defeated the powerful Russian team a the Junior Goodwill Games.
It’s unclear from this picture, how exactly the original The Mighty Ducks cast members, all adults now will factor into the new series. It’s still about a youth hockey team and it’s hard to imagine this group, while still relatively young in actual adult years, fielding a competitive squad in anything but a local, over-30 recreation league. Could they be here as mentors and coaches for the new squad, meant to impart some wisdom about playing the underdog? That feels much more likely especially when you get a look at them on the ice in their sweatpants or riding in on the limo as if they are being celebrated in some fashion.
One notable omission from this The Might Ducks crew is original movie star Joshua Jackson who played Charlie Conway. He’s coming off his role in Little Fire Everywhere and is set to star in the Peacock series Doctor Death. Other than Conway, most of the key players on the original team are in attendance.
The Mighty Duck: Gamechangers might be bringing back some of the original crew, but this appears very much its own story. Sure, Bombay is back but the rest of the cast is youthful newcomers who are starting up their own team much in the way we saw with the first movie. Though a series, I suspect we see many of the same David vs. Goliath themes play out while getting to know some of the side characters and teammates a bit more.
