Robert Pattinson Has Issued Demands To Return For More Twilight?
Is Robert Pattinson headed back to the world of Twilight?
This article is more than 2 years old
We all know Robert Pattinson has moved on from playing sparkly vampire Edward Cullen in the Twilight Saga. In the nearly ten years since the final film of the series, has tried to move as far away from Twilight as possible, going so far as to explain many times why he despised Twilight. A return to the role would be out of the question, right? Well, apparently money talks.
According to insider Daniel Richtman on his Patreon page, Robert Pattinson would consider a return to the franchise if his financial demands were met. Richtman says that the studio would have to “pay him a lot of money” for such a return. We are not sure what “a lot of money” would add up to since the sharp-toothed actor made bank his first go-around as Edward Cullen.
The rumor comes as a big shock as Robert Pattinson has been notoriously outspoken about his time with the Twilight series. In fact, early on during the production of the first film, Pattinson revealed in a 2017 Howard Stern interview that he was almost fired because he was taking things too over-the-top serious. It got so bad that the movie’s producers had to fly Pattinson’s agents out to the set to shake him up a bit. “I thought I was pretty safe. [My agents] flew up and were like, ‘You have to do the opposite of what you’re doing now or you’re going to get fired today,” the star said via the Evening Standard. It worked because Pattinson returned to the set after lunch a new vampire. “I literally came back after lunch and was like ‘Hi! I wanna keep my job!’”
The new Batman has gone on record many times explaining just why he disliked his character, and the story, so much. Some of it revolved around the author of the Twilight novels, Stephanie Meyer. He told E! News (again via the Evening Standard) that he was “convinced Stephanie was convinced she was Bella.” Robert Pattinson also told the outlet that the book read like something “that wasn’t supposed to be published.”
Back in 2011, Robert Pattinson famously said to Vanity Fair, “It is weird being part of that – kind of – representing something you don’t particularly like.” In that same interview, Pattinson spoke about the Twilight fans, who he deems “crazy” for taking their obsession with Twilight to the next level. “It does have an angle which is attached to something quite primal in girls,” he said. “I guess people want it to define them, like, ‘I’m a Twilight fan.’ That’s crazy to me. I think people really just like being part of a crowd. There’s something just tremendously exciting about hyping yourself up to that level.”
Okay, we get it. Robert Pattinson isn’t a fan of the books, the author, or the movies. What then, would bring Pattinson back to a series he loathed? The color green. For his deal just on the last two Twilight movies, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, the actor asked for and received an upfront salary of $25 million and then got a 7.5 percent against gross revenue (which came out to around $16 million) for a total payday of $41 million for each of the final two movies. So, when Richtman says Robert Pattinson would be asking for a lot of money to return to the series, how much more than $41 million would producers have to wave in front of his face for Pattinson to wear the sparkly makeup again?
If you’re curious, there is another Twilight story out there. Stephanie Meyer published Midnight Sun in August 2020 and it basically is a retelling of the first Twilight story only this time it’s seen through the eyes of Edward Cullen. How they would make Robert Pattinson that young again is anyone’s guess (de-aging effects?) but that is the story out there at the moment. Who knows, by the time the financials are settled maybe Meyer will have a newer story for Pattinson to sink his teeth into. Of course, this story better be wrapped in lots of green.
