Exclusive: Dave Bautista In Talks To Play Bane, Batman’s Most Deadly Villain

Dave Bautista has made a lasting impression in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Drax the Destroyer and will be returning to the role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. What else does the future have in store for the character? We don’t yet know, but we do know that Warner Bros. wants to nab the actor for as many projects as possible. He will be playing the role of Glossu ‘Beast’ Rabban in Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming adaptation of Dune, and he was going to be in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad until he decided to take a role in Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead instead. And now, Giant Freakin Robot has some exclusive information about the next big role that Dave Bautista is being courted to play.
According to our trusted inside source – the same one that has provided Giant Freakin Robot with multiple confirmed exclusive scoops that have included Bruce Campbell appearing for a cameo in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Monica Rambeau being a main character in the upcoming Disney+ series Secret Invasion, and Chloe Bennet returning as Quake for a new Marvel series – Dave Bautista is in talks to play the villainous Bane in an upcoming Batman project. This is actually not totally surprising since the actor admitted he was actively trying to get the role for the upcoming Robert Pattinson movie, The Batman. Check out the tweet he sent out in response to a fan inquiring if he was going to be in the movie:
This doesn’t mean that Bane will be showing up in The Batman – by all reports, he is not in the movie at all – but it does show that Dave Bautista has a genuine drive and passion for the role. It is possible that Warner Bros. saw just how committed the actor was to the part and is trying to shape a project specifically so that he will get to play Bane. Whether or not this would be for a sequel to The Batman or is another unrelated DC movie project is unclear at this moment. But, our source is confident that Dave Bautista is communicating with the studio about playing the role in some capacity.
Obviously, the size of Dave Bautista goes a long way when it comes to considering him in the role of Bane. However, he has more than proven himself to be a capable and thoroughly enjoyable character actor throughout his career. And he would very likely bring something new to the table that would not be a pale imitation of Bane’s portrayal by Tom Hardy in The Dark Knight Rises. In fact, we don’t even know if this project he is in talks for would be a Batman movie. Could Bane show up in a sequel to The Suicide Squad if James Gunn decides to return? He’s absolutely the kind of character we could see in the group and there is even the possibility that James Gunn has set this up in The Suicide Squad.
Dave Bautista would be awesome to see as Bane in any DC feature film, especially if it means he gets to collaborate with James Gunn on another project. We will keep our feelers out for any more updates on this news.
