An Overlooked Sandra Bullock Movie Is Coming To Netflix
An overlooked romantic comedy from the 2000s starring Sandra Bullock is making its way to Netflix streaming on March 1st.

An overlooked romantic comedy from the early 2000s is hitting Netflix on March 1st. Two Weeks Notice, starring Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant, is the perfect watch for those wanting a charming film with great chemistry between its stars.
Directed and written by Miss Congeniality‘s Marc Lawrence, Two Weeks Notice centers around an unlikely romance between Sandra Bullock’s Lucy Kelson, a liberal lawyer, and Hugh Grant’s George Wade, a real estate mogul with a reputation for being a womanizer. Lucy is a hard worker, while George is a childish billionaire. Despite his flaws, Lucy decides to accept a job offer from George, thinking that his power and money could help her with smaller projects around the community. But this is all just setup to watch Sandra Bullock play the straight man to Hugh Grant’s ridiculous antics.
The Sandra Bullock-led romantic comedy hit theaters in December 2002, and did quite well, making just under $200 million worldwide. The film is currently the tenth highest-grossing film from Sandra Bullock, and the sixth from Hugh Grant. The film received mixed reviews, and currently sits at 42% on Rotten Tomatoes‘ Tomatometer, with a 59% audience score. Mick LaSalle of the San Francisco Chronicle said “Two Weeks Notice is very much a movie that rides on its co-stars, but it rides nicely,” while Liza Schwarzbaum of Entertainment Weekly said, “I’d watch these two together again in a New York minute.”
However, the negative reviews of Two Weeks Notice didn’t care for the team-up of Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant. Peter Howell of the Toronto Star said, “Two Weeks Notice? Two minutes would be plenty, thanks.” Michael O’Sullivan of The Washington Post simply said, “I hated every minute of it.”
After the success of Two Weeks Notice, the next film from Sandra Bullock would be Crash in 2004, which would go on to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Bullock would continue with a handful of other romantic films after Two Weeks Notice, such as 2006’s The Lake House, and The Proposal and All About Steve from 2009.
Yet also in 2009, Sandra Bullock would star in The Blind Side, which would earn the actress an Academy Award for Best Actress. While Bullock hasn’t been in too many films over the last decade, the films she does star in have been almost universally successful. After The Blind Side, Bullock would also star in the Oscar-nominated Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, followed by the buddy cop film, The Heat in 2013. That same year, Bullock also starred in Gravity, which was also nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards.
In recent years, Sandra Bullock has voiced Scarlet Overkill in 2015’s Minions, starred in the ensemble Ocean’s 8, and led the massive Netflix hit, Bird Box in 2018. Next, Bullock will be appearing in a new film written by Mission: Impossible – Fallout‘s Christopher McQuarrie, which also stars Viola Davis, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Jon Bernthal. Bullock is currently filming Bullet Train by John Wick director David Leitch. The packed cast also includes Brad Pitt, Joey King, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Zazie Beetz, Brian Tyree Henry, Michael Shannon, and Lady Gaga.
Sandra Bullock’s Two Weeks Notice co-star Hugh Grant has also had somewhat of a career resurgence in recent years. Grant followed Two Weeks Notice with other romantic comedies like About a Boy, Love Actually, and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason. But after 2009’s Did You Hear About the Morgans?, Grant stopped doing rom-coms altogether.
Hugh Grant received quite a bit of attention for his villainous role in Paddington 2, and his role in the 2018 miniseries, A Very English Scandal. Most recently, Grant was part of the ensemble in Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen, and starred alongside Nicole Kidman in 2020’s HBO series, The Undoing.
But even though both Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant have done great things since Two Weeks Notice. It’s still quite a charming and enjoyable romantic comedy between two lovely and funny actors. Two Weeks Notice doesn’t break the mold of rom-coms, but it’s a solid entry in the genre, and shows that Bullock and Grant make for a fantastic comedy team.
