When word first started circulating that Emma Watson was leaving Hollywood behind, her fans were understandably curious and probably even upset. Hermione Granger, leaving her career behind? It seemed inconceivable, and yet for a short bit that seemed to be the official word from professionals in close contact with her.

Fortunately, the opposite is the case. Emma Watson’s manager at Untitled Entertainment, Jason Weinberg, denies the recent Daily Mail-perpetuated rumor that his client is retiring from acting to spend more time with her partner, Leo Robinton. Here’s Weinberg’s brief but clear statement on Watson’s status as an actress: “Emma’s social media accounts are dormant but her career isn’t.”

There you have it, folks. Fans of the popular actress can breathe a sigh of relief now that they know she isn’t going anywhere. Sure, we probably won’t be hearing from her on social media for a while, but that is fine as long as we get more outstanding work from her.

All that said, it is interesting that the Daily Mail would assume that Emma Watson was retired from acting for no reason other than her social media accounts have been deactivated. In all seriousness, though, it would absolutely be a shame to see her walk away from acting. But hey, she has branched out into advocacy and other meaningful lines of work, so if she did leave Hollywood it would undoubtedly be for a very good reason.

Emma Watson is best known for her role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter film series (which may be getting an HBO Max series sometime in the future), but she also made waves with her portrayal of Belle in the live-action Beauty and the Beast remake and as Sam in 2012’s The Perks of Being A Wallflower. She has also appeared in The Tale of Despereaux, The Bling Ring, The Circle, and, most recently, as Meg March in Greta Gerwig’s acclaimed Little Women.

Despite the fact that she’s only in her early 30s, Emma Watson’s career spans decades and has captivated moviegoers the world over. Her eight-film tenure as the gifted young witch Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films catapulted her to stardom before she was a teenager and guaranteed her a spot on the list of most successful child actors ever.

As bad as it is that outlets are reporting her rumored departure as fact, it’s not outlandish to assume there’s some truth to these whispers. Emma Watson and one of her Harry Potter co-stars, Rupert Grint, actually almost quit the series, with Grint calling sticking with the franchise “a massive sacrifice.”

Even though she has not actually left her life as a Hollywood actress behind, Emma Watson isn’t really scheduled for anything big in the near future. As stated previously, she does do a ton of advocacy work, so maybe she is dedicating a healthy portion of her time to doing that.

It will be really exciting to see what Emma Watson ends up tackling next, whatever that may be.
