A Peter Dinklage Movie Is The Most Popular Thing On Netflix
A new dark comedy starring Game of Thrones and Elf actor Peter Dinklage is currently the most popular on Netflix streaming.

Even though we’re only a few months into 2021, Netflix already has a new hit with I Care a Lot, starring Rosamund Pike and Peter Dinklage. The film debuted last week on Netflix in the United States, and it’s the #1 most popular on Netflix this week.
I Care a Lot centers around Marla Grayson (Rosamund Pike), a con woman who convinces judges to appoint her guardian to various elderly people living on their own. Marla makes the judge believe they can’t take care of themselves, then she dumps them into assisted living facilities, and sells off their homes and various assets for profit.
Marla’s plan seems solid, until she becomes the guardian of Jennifer Peterson (Dianne Wiest). Marla puts Jennifer in a facility and discovers she owns a safety deposit box full of diamonds/ But what Marla doesn’t know is that Jennifer’s son, Roman Lunyov (Peter Dinklage), is a former Russian mob boss. When Roman sends some of his henchmen to get into Jennifer’s facility and find Jennifer, Marla’s job becomes more dangerous than she ever expected.
In addition to Rosamund Pike, Dianne Wiest, and Peter Dinklage, I Care a Lot also stars Baby Driver’s Eiza González, Chris Messina, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Green Room’s Macon Blair, and Alicia Witt. The film is written by writer and director J Blakeson, who previously wrote 2009’s The Descent Part 2, wrote and directed The Disappearance of Alice Creed that same year, and also directed the young adult adaptation, The 5th Wave in 2016.
I Care a Lot received its premiere last year at the Toronto International Film Festival, where its distribution rights were picked up by Netflix in the United States. The film seems to have divided critics and fans, as on Rotten Tomatoes, I Care a Lot is Certified Fresh on the Tomatometer with an 81%, while it currently has a 35% audience score, with over a thousand ratings. The same is true on Metacritic, where the film has a 66 Metascore, but a 3.1 user score.
Yet the critic reviews have been almost universally strong since its debut in Toronto. Terri White of Empire Magazine called I Care a Lot “a pitch black, punchy satire on capitalism and care homes with lip-smacking performances from Rosamund Pike and Peter Dinklage.” In fact, Rosamund Pike is nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical for her role in I Care a Lot. But maybe The AV Club’s Noel Murray best described the divide between critics and audiences in his review, in which he said, “It’s not essential, and it’s not for everybody. But for those who prefer their pulp to carry the faint aroma of moral rot, this movie is a real treat.”
I Care a Lot co-star Peter Dinklage has been quite busy over the last few years, even beyond his role of Tyrion Lannister on Game of Thrones. In that role, Dinklage won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series a record of four times. The actor also won a Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award for playing Lannister.
Last year, Peter Dinklage also voiced the character of Phil Betterman in The Croods: A New Age. In 2019, he also reprised his role of Mighty Eagle for The Angry Birds Movie 2, and appeared in Between Two Ferns: The Movie. In recent years, Dinklage has also begun to produce, as he starred and produced the 2018 film I Think We’re Alone Now, and the television film My Dinner with Hervé, which was also nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Television Movie.
Next, Peter Dinklage will star in the musical drama Cyrano, based on the play Cyrano de Bergerac. Dinklage starred in the stage musical Cyrano, where he played the lead character. This new adaptation is from Hanna and Darkest Hour director Joe Wright, and also stars Haley Bennett, Ben Mendelsohn, Brian Tyree Henry, and Kelvin Harrison Jr. Dinklage is also attached to an upcoming Toxic Avenger reboot.
Already, 2021 looks to be a great movie year, and I Care a Lot is one of the first must-see films of the year. With the film already receiving award nominations and praise for the performances by Rosamund Pike and Peter Dinklage, there’s no excuse not to check out this critically acclaimed film streaming on Netflix now.
