Gina Carano Says She And Others Were Bullied By Lucasfilm

Gina Carano, and the saga around her ouster from Disney, might be something we talk about for the rest of our lives. Or at least it’s starting to feel that way. After her high-profile firing and subsequent, medium-profile rehiring by another outlet, the actress has still managed to keep a steady part of the news cycle as more information comes out about the situation. That’s the case again here with Carano claiming that she, and others, were actually the victims of bullying from the studio.
Gina Carano sat down with her new employer, Ben Shapiro from The Daily Wire, to discuss her time on The Mandalorian, the timeline of events that led to her firing from the show, and her feelings about the way the studio handled the situation from her point of view. It’s an enlightening listen about the events and how Carano sees the situation as having played out. It’s clear she doesn’t seem to think she was recalcitrant in her time with Disney, and if anything believes she was the victim of bullying on the part of the studio. Some of the more interesting comments from Gina Carano come from how she views Disney as having been somewhat complicit in the process of having her removed from the show. She details how she believes some of her social media posts were misinterpreted and that early on there was a sense the studio was out to get her.
At one point, Gina Carano had this to say:
“I’ve been through so much, and I’ve seen so much now, clearly, of the bullying that’s been taking place, and I saw it before. I’m not the only one that’s ever been bullied by this company, and I know that so deeply…I could share a story which would turn things around in the media but I can’t because it would sell out a friend…Everyone is afraid of losing their job.”
The actress says she knew the studio was really starting to keep tabs on her social media posts after receiving an email from the studio early on that intimated they were following the #FireGinaCarano hashtag carefully. And that during the last few months Gina Carano had been especially tuned in to what she believed to be a “double-standard” from the studio towards their treatment of talent depending on the political views.
Gina Carano fails to go into details on this end and didn’t identify who exactly would have been in the studio’s good graces when it comes to messaging. There’s also a section of the interview in which she claims to have real dirt on the studio in terms of their treatment of others. But again she failed to go into detail because it would cost someone their job.
Ultimately, Gina Carano says she learned she’d been fired from The Mandalorian and other Disney productions the same way a lot of us did also: through social media. It was an unceremonious way to go, though likely not all that much of a surprise. And considering how quickly she turned around a new deal with The Daily Wire (literally the same day) it’s reasonable to believe she knew she was on her way out anyway.
That Gina Carano is coming out now, speaking against Disney isn’t all that much of a surprise. It’s a good leveraging tactic on her part to bring attention to her new deal with The Daily Wire. But it will be interesting to see if more details come out that shed light on the subtle digs she takes at the company. It might embolden more people to speak out if Disney is mistreating their employees.
