The Mortal Kombat Trailer Is Getting A Big Reaction From Fans

Get over here! And this time we really mean it. Warner Bros. just dropped the red band Mortal Kombat trailer of the upcoming reboot and it is exactly what a red band trailer should be. Bloody good fun that fans are lapping up in droves. And before we go any further, if you haven’t seen the red band trailer, check it out below.
The reboot is being brought to you by director Simon McQuoid, who is directing a feature film for the first time. Don’t let that dissuade you, from the looks of the trailer not only has McQuiod bring to life what Mortal Kombat fans have waited years for, he looks to be doing it in grand fashion, adhering as close as possible to the tone, spirit, and, most importantly, the gore of the video game. The red band brought out the game lover in all of us.
Of course, there are always those out there who must nitpick at every little thing because life wouldn’t be as fun if you can’t bitch about something.
But for the most part, fan reaction has been off the chart. Anticipation for the reboot has been growing and now that McQuoid has delivered on a solid Mortal Kombat trailer, fans simply can’t wait for April 16, 2021.
While McQuoid and company stick closely to the source material, they did make a few small changes to liven up an already lively story. Case in point, the introduction of a new original character in Cole Young, played by Lewis Tan. As McQuoid explains it to IGN, “We felt it was okay to bring in a new character given that Mortal Kombat has over the years introduced new characters quite a bit.” True. With eleven or so games under their belt, Mortal Kombat, over the years, has most definitely introduced a few new characters. Cole first finds an ally in one Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee) and it is Blade who then explains to Cole the purpose of the movie – the Mortal Kombat tournament which pits a select group of human warriors against evil forces from the Outworld, with the winner laying claim to Earth.
New character or characters aside, fans want to see those who have made the game so popular. Sub-Zero, Jax, Scorpion, Lord Raiden, Liu Kang, Shang Tsung, Kung Lao, Kano, Mileena, and Goro. Fans will not be disappointed. Joining Tan and McNamee are Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero, who is said to be leaned on heavily in this movie, as is the rivalry between Sub-Zero and Scorpion.
Tadanobu Asano arrives as Lord Raiden, Mehcad Brooks brings it all to Jax, and Sisi Stringer plays Mileena. They are all there folks.
Even GameSpot chimed in with their take on the Mortal Kombat red band trailer.
Of course, Mortal Kombat wouldn’t be what it is without what game players love the most, fatalities. McQuoid promises fatalities, as the Mortal Kombat red band trailer hints at. “The Fatalities were always in from the get-go, there was never any question from anyone at all. There was no resistance from the studio. They wanted them, I wanted them,” McQuoid said via IGN. “There’s a fatality from Kano, he ripped someone’s heart out. But what was important to me was that even when the Fatalities arrived, we couldn’t just do a Fatality and have it mean nothing. … It actually becomes an important ingredient in the rhythm of the action scene.”
