UFO Sightings Increased In 2020
UFO sightings are up across the globe. 2020 marked the most ever instances of folks catching a glimpse of possible alien spacecraft

UFO sightings are coming fast and furious these days with the reports of possible encounters increasing year-over-year. Are we entering a copycat version of our society in which the news reports more of the sightings and therefore people are more willing to see them? Are folks just bored? Or are aliens really starting to visit Earth with more frequency these days? I’m going to go with two of the former, but let’s not rule out the latter either. Our planet might be ripe for the alien picking right now. Because UFO sightings have been steadily on the rise over the last year.
These latest numbers of UFO sightings are coming specifically from a group in Michigan that tracks these kinds of things. The Michigan Mutual UFO Network tabulates and records UFO sightings across the state. For 2020 they released their data and had received 233 reports of possible UFO encounters. The group has been around since 1969 and this past year was the biggest reporting year yet. They claim to have more than 4,000 members worldwide with chapters in 43 countries and all 50 states. That’s casting a wide net in an effort to make sure all sightings are accounted for.
The uptick in UFOs in Michigan is in line with what’s happening across the country. During the pandemic, the reporting in the United States has increased as well. And it was just recently reported that the highest concentration of UFO sightings since a certain group started tracking these things was in rural Maine. Over the years, there have been more than 1,000 sightings reported to the National UFO Reporting Center. That’s the most in the 50 states and this group reports that the numbers are up during the pandemic.
This presents something of a chicken or the egg scenario when it comes to UFO sightings. Are they up because people are looking to the skies more and focusing on the little details or are they just hearing more about them and thinking there’s something out there. For sure, in recent months it’s become more part of the public consciousness with the US government releasing thousands of, now declassified, pages of findings regarding documented UFO encounters.
And, of course, there have been some interesting events of late as well. A Pakistani airline pilot shot a video of an unexplained object in the sky during one of his flights. And the US Navy, as part of that document dump, had a video of two fighter pilots with near-confirmation of something not of this planet in the skies during one of their flights. This report was one of the first, publicly-acknowledged potential extraterrestrial events by the government. It marked a big step towards transparency in what has actually happened in terms of possible first contact.
Does the uptick in UFO sightings mean we need to storm the gates in Roswell to find more answers? Or do we need to keep looking towards the sky for more clues? Maybe both. Or maybe we are just seeing things we want to see. Whatever the explanation, there’s little doubt this continues to be a thing in the public consciousness and maybe we are headed toward that first ET-phone home moment.
