Chris Evans will likely go down in history for his role as Steve Rogers a.k.a. Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor solidified his place in pop culture history with that role and many assumed that his sendoff moment in Avengers: Endgame would mark the end of his tenure for Marvel. Well, we have already heard one wild rumor regarding his return in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but we have come in possession of some other information that might be even nuttier than what has previously been reported.
Our trusted inside source – the same one that gave us our confirmed scoops regarding Don Cheadle showing up as War Machine in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Josh Brolin returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Thanos – has let us know that Marvel is trying to get Chris Evans to appear as both an evil version of Captain America and none other than the Human Torch in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Yes, it looks like they want to acknowledge his role in a previous Marvel superhero movie in what has to be a very cheeky cameo. This would certainly line up with the other info we have received that Marvel wants Jessica Alba to have a cameo in the movie as the Invisible Woman as well.
Would Chris Evans be joined by Jessica Alba and their other Fantastic Four alums, Ioan Gruffudd as Mister Fantastic and Michael Chiklis as The Thing? Could Julian McMahon even be persuaded to pop in as his version of Doctor Doom? Or would Marvel want to save that character for their own version? The possibilities are endless now that we know the multiverse has been blown wide open. Nothing is off the table and we could see appearances from any number of former superheroes that Marvel now retains the rights to.
Now that the multiverse is ripe for the picking, will audiences enjoy the joke of Chris Evans showing up as the Human Torch? Or will it end up being too confusing? For fans, it sounds like a great bit of winking acknowledgment of the actor’s superhero past. But, could less familiar audiences be left scratching their heads as to why Chris Evans is showing up as two totally different characters? It all depends on how well the entire multiverse concept goes over with audiences. Granted, Marvel is pot committed at this stage of the game, but things could change if audiences find themselves more befuddled than amused at all these multiverse shenanigans.
There is no denying that seeing Chris Evans as the Human Torch for one last time would also act as a silly sendoff for that era of his superhero career. You have to imagine that he and any other returning cast members would be willing to poke fun at their time as Marvel’s First Family. If it is all for the sake of a good laugh, we really hope MArvel is able to convince Chris Evans to take the part.
