Emma Stone is the kind of actress that immediately makes a project worth keeping your eyes on. She is a powerhouse performer that has crafted a truly impressive and varied career over the years with films like La La Land, The Favourite, and Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance). Not to mention her incredible comedy chops in movies like Zombieland, Superbad, and Easy A. Basically, if she is showing up in a movie, it is a pretty good chance you’re gonna be in for a memorable experience. And according to some new information we have received, there is another project the actress will be starring in that sounds like a must-see film.
Our trusted inside source – the same one that informed Giant Freakin Robot with a confirmed scoop that Josh Brolin will be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the Mad Titan Thanos – has revealed that Emma Stone is in talks to star in Foe, an adaptation of Iain Reid’s novel of the same name. The film will be directed by Garth Davis who is also set to direct Tron 3 for Disney. Author Iain Reid is adapting his novel to the screen. The story centers around a married couple who live on an isolated farm. One day, a stranger shows up and tells them that the husband has been selected to travel to an orbiting space station above Earth and will live there for two years before returning home. In the interim, a biomechanical duplicate of the husband will stay with his wife to keep her company. The stranger will be monitoring the husband to collect data that will make the duplicate as lifelike as possible.
It sounds like the kind of tense and unnerving thriller that Emma Stone could bring a lot of gravitas to. As of now, the actress is currently in discussion to play the wife, Henrietta. It is assumed that the film will play out much like the novel, so it is feasible that the movie would only feature a key trio of performers. If that does end up being the case, the casting of these roles will be vital to making the story work for audiences. Such an intimate setting and small cast means that all the pieces need to work in perfect harmony. And nabbing an actor like Emma Stone is a huge part of assuring this project is on the right track.
Emma Stone could definitely nail the role of Henrietta. Her next big performance will be in the Disney film Cruella, a villain-centric spin on the classic One Hundred and One Dalmatians. After such a blockbuster and family-friendly part, it would be great to see Emma Stone switch gears to playing something more grounded and intense like Henrietta in Foe. If you don’t know anything else about the story, we suggest you stay unspoiled because there are some legitimately powerful surprises and emotional beats in the novel that any actor would be lucky to play.
We will have to wait and see who else attaches themselves to Foe, but kicking things off with Emma Stone is a great start. We can’t wait to hear more about this project.
