Exclusive: Don Cheadle Will Return As War Machine In Falcon And The Winter Soldier
Don Cheadle is back as War Machine.
Update: This Giant Freakin Robot Don Cheadle exclusive was confirmed with a return to The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Don Cheadle has made quite the impression as James “Rhodey” Rhodes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even though he took over the role from Terrence Howard, the actor has made the part his own and has become one of the central supporting pillars of the Marvel experience. We already knew that he would be getting some time in the spotlight with the upcoming Armor Wars series on Disney+, but we have obtained some exciting news that says we will be seeing the superhero a lot sooner than that.
Our trusted inside source – the same one that provided Giant Freakin Robot with our confirmed scoop about Josh Brolin returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Thanos – is reporting that Don Cheadle will be appearing as War Machine in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Exactly what his role will be in the series is unclear but it is very possible that his involvement in the show could help set up his own series, Armor Wars. There is also the possibility that a new power dynamic might be established between Rhodey and the two titular heroes. With Iron Man and Captain America out of the picture as leaders, the Marvel Cinematic Universe definitely needs to reestablish how these particular heroes relate to one another.
Could Don Cheadle’s Rhodey end up butting heads with Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes in the same way Iron Man and Captain America found themselves at odds? Or will the events of the last decade make them a more cohesive unit of Avengers? It is going to be fascinating to see how this new era of Marvel superheroes interact with each other and what kind of unique relationships they form. Hopefully, these streaming series on Disney+ will give the characters a lot of room to breathe and take time to explore these kinds of character developments.
Really, the news of Don Cheadle appearing in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier should just be good news for the simple fact that it means we will be seeing more Rhodey than we initially expected. The character has become a real joy to see in each successive entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Cheadle himself feels like he gets more and more comfortable with the role in each appearance. The fact that he will be getting to headline his own story with Armor Wars was already a welcome treat, but knowing that we will get to see him in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has made the anticipation for that show become even more palpable.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will premiere on March 19 exclusively on Disney+. We are not sure exactly when Don Cheadle will be showing up in the series – if we were to guess, it might be towards the end – but you can bet we will be excited when he does pop up. If you need to enjoy more Don Cheadle superhero antics for the time being, why not watch his interpretation of the environmentalist superhero Captain Planet? You won’t regret it.
