After the success of 2018’s A Quiet Place, written and directed by star John Krasinski, Paramount Pictures quickly greenlit a sequel, A Quiet Place Part II. However, this sequel has been one of the many films to receive multiple delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film was originally planned to release on March 20, 2020, but after getting pushed several times, the film is now scheduled for a September 17, 2021 release. But as the new sequel is still waiting to be released, a new rumor suggests and third and even fourth film could be on the way.
This rumor comes from gossip writer Daniel Richtman, who posted the rumor on his Patreon page. Richtman’s rumor doesn’t state if these are expected to be A Quiet Place Part III and IV, or if there are just expected to be four films in the A Quiet Place universe. At this point, there is already a spin-off A Quiet Place film in development, while John Krasinski has also talked about ideas for A Quiet Place Part III.
Late last year, Paramount announced that Jeff Nichols, writer and director of such films as Take Shelter, Mud, and Midnight Special, would be making a new film in the A Quiet Place universe. The film is based on an idea from John Krasinski, but it has not been revealed what this project will be about. Considering early footage of A Quiet Place Part II shows the moments the alien attack occurs, it’s possible this new film could be a prequel explanation of sorts as to what happened to the world. Plus, Nichols’ penchant for working with child actors, telling grand stories that still feel incredibly personal should work extremely well with the A Quiet Place franchise.
Yet while promoting A Quiet Place Part II early last year, John Krasinski even mentioned that he had been considering a third film. Krasinski stated in an interview with Collider that he hadn’t considered a sequel to A Quiet Place when he was making the first one. But when he started thinking about what a sequel could be, he kept coming up with new ideas, even taking notes to prepare for a potential third movie.
This was probably a good move for John Krasinski, since A Quiet Place Part II is a highly-anticipated sequel that it looks like Paramount Pictures wants to stretch into a whole cinematic universe. A Quiet Place was a surprise hit for the studio, making $340 million worldwide against a $17 million budget, and earning a $50 million opening weekend domestically. With that kind of return on their investment, it’s no surprise that Paramount would want to keep growing this series into something they can keep banking on.
With the constant delays of A Quiet Place Part II, it seems like we will probably start hearing about the future of this series after its release, if it does finally come on September 17, 2021. There seems to be a lot more to explore with A Quiet Place, and John Krasinski seems to have a plan for where this series could potentially go.
