New Mandalorian Artwork Omits Gina Carano From The Cast
The latest The Mandalorian promotional materials have just hit and Gina Carano's Cara Dune is conspicuously absent from the group.

Gina Carano might be needing to look for new on-screen employment sooner than later. She’s been at the center of some controversy over the last couple of months with some The Mandalorian fans calling for her ouster because of her stances on a variety of hot-button topics. Those fans might be getting their wish because the show just recently released some new promotional material and Gina Carano is noticeably absent from the images. Check it out:
You can see that the newest promotional art has most of the characters you’d think of when ramping up for season two of The Mandalorian. Of course, there’s Mando front and center with Grogu/ Baby Yoda in the basket in front of him. Mando is flanked on the right by Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka Tano and Carl Weathers’ Greef Karga. On his other side is Giancarlo Esposito’s Moff Gideon and Dianna Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsberth. Of course, totally missing is Gina Carano who’s appeared in the most episodes of any side character in the show (seven).
Now, maybe Gina Carano’s omission from the newest art is simply a balance/ space thing. There are two characters on each side of Mando and maybe there’s a hierarchy of how much certain folks will appear next season. That could explain part of why she isn’t around here. But there’s certainly reason to believe this was very much done on purpose.
Considering the popularity of Gina Carano’s Cara Dune through the first two seasons of The Mandalorian and her central role in a number of the arcs, you’d think she’d be part of the proceedings here. She played such a dominant force: strong, confident, and able to stand toe-to-toe with Mando in their first encounter and willing to join any type of fight against Imperial forces going forward.
Of course, there’s context in why Gina Carano might not be included in this latest promotional material. She’s come under fire in recent months for what some see as controversial takes she’s had on social media. Back in November, she tweeted some comments related to possible election fraud as well as taking a dig at a mask-wearing culture that’s happened since the pandemic.
Rather than succumb to a moderate internet mob, Gina Carano only spent the next few months doubling and tripling down on her stances, unwilling to offer fans any apologies over what she saw as her opinions. That led many to speculate she’d eventually lose her job on The Mandalorian. Even though show creator Jon Favreau appears nonpolitical and unmoved by Carano’s stances, there is some chance even higher-ups are willing to make the call on the actress’s future.
Again, one piece of promotional artwork isn’t necessarily the harbinger of employment doom one might expect for Gina Carano. But in light of the current issues, it’s at least something to take note of. With The Mandalorian’s Season Three targeting and end of 2021/early 2022 release we will likely get more and more casting news over the next month or so.
